Hello fellow members

Il admit I'm a serious flipper, and it's costing me money every time, I don't seem to be content with the watches in my possession and find the need to upgrade every so often, for instance I started with a Hulk flipped that for a BLNR, that also didn't last long , then came the DSSD, that went too for the 116613lb, that's gone , also gone are my Tudor Ranger and THCB.

Now I'm just on these two, and I don't know how long these will last to be honest, geez I'm wondering why did I ever get into watches as a hobby lol!

Any suggestions on how I can stop myself?

Im with you on this one. I bought 3 and sold 2 watches this year.
Im looking to get anther one now as Im only left with one watch at the moment.

Luckly I bought pre-owned so I didn't loose anything.

The key is not to lose money when you flip, my last 3 sales have all made a steady profit. As for the flipping you got to try to find one you love it may be the Daytona as the rock to build others on, I have flipped many but slowly built to the set I want to keep moving forward

Yep I know what your saying but I just can't seem to keep my watches long enough to make any profit on.

I have found that over the years buying right is the key to flipping. Sometimes you will lose money but most of the time I break even or have a little extra to go forward. You will reach a point where you like the watch or watches you have and don't want to flip them. This is where it can get expensive as you don't have the value of a watch as a trade. For me it is a hobby and a passion and I try not to take it too serious. I have friends that do other things with collecting or hobbies so to each his own.

Just wait until you start into AP, Patek or others...that's when the pain really hurts.

You need to buy the watches right on the front side to mitigate the backside pain. You will almost always lose $, but how much is the trick.

Paul is right on the money. I'm glad I gave myself a 6 month between buys rule when I started buying Rolexes because it would be a massacre on the other brands and PM models.

I think flipping is a journey for most WIS. I have flipped my fare share of watches but it was necessary since my taste in watches change over time. This is my main hobby so I try not to dwell on the money lost through flipping.

It's DEFINITELY tough--but this is why we all love watches so much!!!

Hunting for a new watch is addictive as many have said. And no one understands this like other WIS --- (especially wives... LOL).

I also concur with others on trying to keep the overall loss margin low...flipping can become expensive overtime if you're not careful -- ESPECIALLY if you ever get into the AP, PP arenas -- you have to be cognizant of locale, market, etc as this will have A LOT to do with what I will call perceived value.

I have noticed after collecting for so long that just about every location has its 'brands' and those brands are king.

And the obvious - entry price of any watch is crucial.

When I got into APs - I found my desire for other watches changed greatly.

Build your collection beyond two pieces. Two can get boring. Once you get up to four or five, you'll be wearing each less often and appreciate them more when you do., keeping the love alive longer.

Eventually the charge and satisfaction you get from the flip and money loss won't add up. I have found I eventually stopped flipping, I still look a lot but am more able to control the urge to take action. I still have my short list of the next ones but can put them off until money is in place and a flip isn't necessary to make it happen.

1st stay off TRF.

2nd recognize that it's not the watch you want, but the high from the excitement of aquiring it. If it wasn't watches it would be something else.

That is good advice. I have the same problem. The excitement of getting the watch and hunting for it is greater than actually having the watch.

Same here - love the hunt. So why don't you hunt for something very difficult to obtain (a rare vintage model, super expensive PM, etc.) So you don't get to flip often.
