First time owner makes a lifetime owner

Hello all,

I've been eyeing the Rolex brand for many years now but have never actually gone to an AD to try one on. Finally stepped into one last year in Grand Cayman and was blown away at the prices they commanded but also the quality with the pieces I tried on felt (DateJust II). I walked out of there purchasing a Longines Conquest to hold me over telling myself, "someday".

The past year I've been researching and scouring TRF and WatchUSeek learning all about the different brands and movements. Oris, Ball and Omega were on my list of watches to get next if I wasn't getting into Rolex.

Fast forward to September and I got married, followed by a honeymoon which included Hong Kong. How could I not window shop while in the luxury watch import/export capital. After trying on all the different models, the difference in quality was apparent but I couldn't bring myself to pull the gun. I made enough and can certainly spend the amount but the thought that I could have purchased multiple quantities of less expensive watches inhibited me. My lovely wife saw the dilemma brewing in my mind and insisted that she buy it for me as my wedding present.

Hence, I reached out to some ADs in Hong Kong for the best price and within the next day which also happened to be the day I was leaving to come home I found her. I rushed over to the AD, 4 hours before my flight to pick her up. My Rolex Explorer II, ref 216570.

I couldn't be happier and I'm not sure if I'm able to wear any other watch on my wrist...until my next one.

Great set. Welcome to TRF, you definitely have a keeper and since it's a wedding gift never, EVER trade it.

Good luck wearing anything else. I own a collection with 1 Hamilton, 2 Tudors and a variety of other watches. Since I bought my Datejust, I haven't worn one once. I have started selling them off or giving them away actually. The DJ will be glued on my wrist until one day it has another rolex partner.

Love the exp II. Are the street prices good in hong kong right now? I've read that demand there has plummeted.

Congratulations! Something very similar happened to me. At first, I was a little scared to pull the trigger for whatever reason. Like you, I also ended up getting a Hydroconquest and a couple other watches hoping I'd forget about a Rolex. This was not the case... So instead of just buying what I wanted the first time around I ended up spending much more only to end up where I wanted to in the first place.

Enjoy the watch and married life, both can be very rewarding!

Congrats on the watch and congrats on the very understanding wife!

As another member said... Never EVER trade it as it was a gift from your wife.
