Dear all,

I haven't used and owned a GMT watch. I am curious how you guys set the GMT 24hr hand to which hour when you are not traveling or not using the feature.

I use military time all the time, whatever my time zone is. So at 10 pm the GMT hand would be set at 22. Easier that way in my line of work. Makes it easy all the time.

I work abroad so my GMT is actually serving a purpose, in which case it's always set to home time, central, in the US. When I'm home I leave it on home time and just adjust the normal time to local, that's what a GMT is for, I use it like a pilot would.

If I didn't travel as much or work abroad I wouldn't own a GMT I think, no point, in my opinion just having a hand wandering around the dial without any function. While I don't dive, a dive watch serves the same functional purpose as any other watch except that it is more robust and extremely water resistant which I do value as I spend a lot of time in the water and banging around in the woods.

I recomend you just set it to local time, so you get used to reading it in real time. Makes it easier to use when you're travelling and referencing home time with it.

I use the GMT hand for US EST as that is where I am currently based. The hour and minute hands I use for local time, wherever that may be.

I live in Asia so mine is set to UK time. I never travel with mine unless I'm going home so the reference being set to UK suits my needs.

The 24 hour hand is set to GMT/UTC for me. Aviation worldwide uses GMT for everything....position reporting, flight plan filing, notams, weather, ATC slots, etc.

I have friends and family living in India, and frequently need to talk with them, so I set my GMT hand to Indian time so I can quickly at a glance tell the time over there. When I'm traveling to a time zone other than India, then I set GMT hand to my home time zone

Local time for me. When I travel I rotate the bezel to the new time zone I'm in and use the 24 hour hand.
