Hi,
About 2 months ago I bought a white face milgauss while visiting NY. It was my 1st rolex (bought an SD after that) and I though at the time that I was really lucky to be able to find such a rare piece.
A few weeks ago, I was visiting a local AD and he had a few white and black milgausses in its safe. I was so surprise that I even posted it here, in case someone might become interested. Today, I was visiting a shopping center and noticed that another local AD had opened a new store there. To my surprise they had one milgauss on the window (along with almost all remaining rolex collection except of course for the ss daytona and gv milgauss). I guess normal milgausses are becoming common, which is nice since such a nice watch should be available to anybody who is willing to pay for it (too bad the daytona isn't also becoming common, has I would love to get one)
Is anyone here also noticing this? Do you thing its also only a matter of time for the GV also to become common (after production problems are solved)? How about the daytona? Will it always be the harder to get piece of the collection?

SS Daytona will always be rather hard to find at MSRP, IIC will soon be discounted widely, regular Milg is getting easier to find in AD, and I have no idea what's happening to the GV. My guess is it'll end up like the Daytona.

People (outside of CA) have already reported getting disounts on the IIC. It's not a limited edition - in a short time it will be everywhere, just like the GMTII was.

My Thoughts exactly. Here in the uK whilst they do appear in the odd window, no chance of a discount.
In the same vein, i know an AD which wont use a waiting list for the SS Daytona, will only put them in the window and let them sell that way.

Welcome to TRR, António!

Yes, it does seem that the Milgauss ("ordinary" ones) watches are becoming increasingly availible, at least in Europe. Imho, it will take a while before the "GV" becomes readily availible, too, however.

As for the SS Daytona, the SS version of the Daytona is the "cheapest" way to go, if you want a chronograph from Rolex. Therefore the demand is higher on the SS than on the TT and YG/WG models. Furthermore, Rolex and the AD's earn less money on selling the SS than on selling the TT and YG/WG models, so Rolex makes fewer of them for that reason.

Also remember that many people put themselves on SEVERAL waiting lists for the SS Daytona, thereby creating longer than factual lists.

The average AD gets two SS Daytonas per year (some have writtten about the theory that the AD get a LOT more than just two a year and sell the rest off to grey market dealers. Might be true, might not be true), but if the two a year rate is true, it is only natural that it is hard to get.

You must also consider that Rolex is interested in having at least ONE really hyped up Rolex watch in its line.

Reason: Rolex get a LOT of customers running into the AD shops to ask for the SS Daytona, and they would get the usual reply:

"No, we have NO SS Daytonas, and we don't even bother to put customers on the list anymore! It makes no sense doing that! But look at this lovely Explorer II, white face, we just got in!....(blah blah blah!)"

I bet many customers tend to get what the CAN get in that situation.

Anyway, congrats on your white Milgauss! It's a sharp looking watch! Please post some pics of it!

I think they are becoming more available. I'm making calls and sending emails in my hunt for one while I make my decision if I really want it. About 25% of the AD's I have contacted have a black or white, one had both..no one has a GV.

Well in Glasgow i have seen 1- and its mine, the three AD's in the city centre have had one between them since introduction( so they say)- and its mine
Secondly many of you say the GMT C II is becoming common- i have not seen one in any AD in Glasgow ( remember Glasgow is the third behind London and Birmingham largest city in the UK)

The GV was $18k, I see it now for $13k. It's hype. Never buy DVDs or comic books that scream "Collector's Edition." It is only hype. WE decide what is the thing to have. I've never had anyone ask me for the collector's edition of a DVD.

When I got my SS GMT in 2006 no one really paid attention to it. Now it is discontinued and selling used for more than I paid new. It's a crapshoot. Just buy what you like. If you like the Milgauss, get it. If not, pass.

I guess it might also depend on the markets. GMTIIc has been widely available over here for quite some time now and although I didn't asked, I bet it is possible to get at least 10% off.

I think it depends on where you're at. In my area there are no Milgauss in stores. I was in Vegas recently and the Milgauss was nowhere to be seen.

Glad to see someone understands how it works! Perfect example also classic car auctions like Barrett Jackson in USA. Old american muscle cars restored selling for six figures some near to or over 1 Million USD. Anyways part of the thrill for me, never knowing which one in my collection will be the biggest shocker in the future.

Opposite of Dallas, blk & white Miguass are readily available at my AD. Grey market pricing has also dropped substantially.

Milgausses are still rare in So Cali especially at list. Greys are asking 7- 8k.

I have seen the white dial Milgauss in stock at my AD here in Northern California selling at list of course. I'm not surprised the Milgauss is becoming more common. They were released last year so its about time we started seeing more of them pop up in the ADs. The same also holds true for the SS GMT II-C.

The only exception is the Milgauss GV. My AD told me they only had one available for their entire chain of stores and it was sold long before it even could make it to any of the stores. Its clear that Rolex has not produced a lot of the GV model.

Just checked on Ebay, and the BNIB Black and White dial versions can be had for US$6995~US$7500. Getting closer to its MSRP. The GV still seems to be at 15K.

Check the "Completed Items"...because few are selling. As for the IIc..a discount on this watch in NJ is a given. To be more precise about my above post, I contacted 15 AD's recently (I had to check my records), 7 responded, 4 had them. 2 had white, 1 had black, 1 had both. No GV's as usual

I disagree, but I've been wrong on this issue before. IMO, the *best* sport Rolex's are those that are useful to the buyer: Expy or GMT for those who change time zones, Expy or Expy II for mountaineers, Sub for those who dive. IMO the Milgauss's usefulness is very limited to those who work around high magnetism, much as the SD's usefulness is tied to extreme deep-sea diving, and much as the Daytona's usefulness is limited to those who need to time things with those special hands.

This is how it *should* work, IMO, not how it *does* work, though. I think most Rolex buyers don't really use the "bells and whistles" supplied on their watches, and that it's often more status than anything.

I mean, really, we don't need Hollywood starlets taking up the SS Daytona market, but there they are, sporting them on the beach, where they're not useful at all.

I spend an awful lot of time in airports, travelling around the world etc and I'm yet to see a single Milgauss.

I saw one in an authorized dealer in Reims, France though. Lovely watch - white face model. Tried it on, but I still prefer my IIc and I can't justify the expenditure right now!

I've only seen one GMT-IIc on my travels, but I do see a lot of Subs, DJs and sea dwellers. I also spotted a platinum yacht master the other day.

Sorry guys, but I think the Milgauss is all hype. I keep looking at this timepiece and have to admit that it does nothing for me. I have no use for a timepiece that can withstand such a large magnetic field. But then again, since I don’t dive, do I really need a SUB?

they aren't selling at that price, not quickly anyway, I've had three Milgauss' offered to me, I bought a black and a white, the black I donated to a charity auction and I passed on the other two. I tried to sell a white one for my neighbor and it took much longer then I thought it would and it ended up selling for what he paid for it, that was 3 months ago. Had he tried to sell it 5 months ago he would have made some money, I asked a grey dealer last week about it and she said her requests have fallen through the floor and she can't get much above MSRP

A couple of weeks ago I saw both White and Black Milgauss at Traditional Jewelers - Newport Beach (Fashion Island). Not sure if they are both still available. For San Diego TRF member - Newport Beach is about 1 hour and 20minutes - might be worth a call to them.

The Large Rolex store at South Coast Plaza claimed that they have not had any Milgauss in since they opened.
