The Mystery of the Red Hangtag: Do you know?

I thought it would be interesting to solicit info from TRF gurus about what the know about the history of the Red Hangtag.

My curiosity was piqued after a comment regarding the red Hangtag that comes with a 14060m 2-liner. Prior to purchasing my recent beauty(14060m Y serial. 2-liner), I looked at a bunch of kits of various completeness. Many were missing tags, but others had the same red tag with hologram (plus or minus a green tag).

So I'm curious: Does anyone out there know the history of the red hang tag?
When they switched to hologram?
When they switched from one hologram to another?

I've read back through a bunch or old forum posts as well as old sale threads. From what can tell, it looks like a true complete kit for a 14060m included both a red and green tag, an anchor, a polishing cloth, in addition to standard boxes, warranty papers, and manuals. But honestly, who knows...Do you!?

Not an answer to your questions but FWIW here's a link to some interesting facts about Rolex. http://thegreengmthand.com/about/use...lex-knowledge/

The red hang tag (seal) is a certification that the watch was COSC tested.

It does not legitimately come with a 2 line 14060M

Just as an aside here..I have a later 4 liner 14060M and it lacks the anchor that yours has. I was told they'd no longer been in the box with the later 4 liners..does that sound right?

Yes it does. They stopped the anchors around 2004/5.

There's no mystery. As I pointed out in your other thread..

"A red tag with a new watch means that the movement is COSC certified (aka Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified on the dial). As the two-liner was not certified, it did not come with a red tag. Sellers who like to put together "full sets" for their watches sometimes include a red tag by mistake.

Red tags were used from, I believe, as early as the late 1940s to July this year, when they changed to green. They went from plain to hologram around 1990, I think."

Thanks for that. I was scrounging for my red hang tag and then found a green one in the box with "Superlative Certified" and a little hologram on it. Also, the watch has no big green sticker on the case back, just a little green sliver of one similar to the red one on my Tudor.

I guess these are all new changes.

The round green tag replaced the red one when the warranty period went up from two years to five last July.
