I'm probably not the only one that thinks this watch is now ruined but who would actually wear this? For me diamonds on a watch even for markers is a stretch.

No it's not ruined, it's a statement watch to be worn on special occasions like when you host a party at your palace for those with fewer oil wells than you, or de-planing from your private 747 and there's a line of people waiting there hoping to be acknowledged before you hop into your helicopter. In that context, you're going to look like a big phoney if you go plain vanilla.

But lets make this topic interesting fellas. How could you salvage this?

Could you remove the diamonds and sell them wholesale, if yes, for how much? Source new bracelet links? How much would this fetch realistically on resale? Is a trade in at 50% market value to the dealer is most valuable option, if you were gifted one and couldn't wear it?

It's doubtful that any dealer would give even 50% of market value for that, though it's hard to say what that value would be since there aren't many buyers for this type of watch even in new condition, let alone used. My guess is that most dealers' offers would be based on the gold weight only, as most would rightly regard it as an unsellable watch.

Salvage-wise, I wouldn't be surprised if it cost about as much as a new watch to restore it to original condition.

The case, bezel and entire bracelet would all need replacement, as the ones on the watch are ruined and would only be worth their gold scrap value; the diamond chips are essentially worthless. The larger diamonds woudn't be worth much, either. There's not much of a secondary market for them, so their resale value tends to be pitiful.

It looks like only the movement, crystal, dial, hands, crown and (I would hope) caseback would be reuseable, and I'm not sure their value would make the project viable given the cost of replacing the rest. I'd say it's essentially a writeoff, at least as a Rolex wristwatch.

I'm not an expert in this type of thing, however. It would be interesting to hear from someone who knows the trade better.
