Would you do this trade?
Hey guys, it's been a while since I've posted here, probably cause I haven't bought anything new and was fairly content with my small collection, which consists of a SubC, Speedy Pro and a 15202.
I like my collection because the three are so different from each other and are all iconic models. Buuuut as you all know, the itch appears when you least expect it, and this time I'm itching for a Rose Gold Day Date 40mm. To get this piece I would flip the AP plus cash. I don't wear the AP as much cause I feel it's to delicate, you look at it the wrong way and it scratches, unlike the SubC or speedy which are bullet proof. So, I know it's my call, but what would you do? I'm also posting this in the Rolex forum to get both opinions. Thanks. |

15202 Jumbo is probably the most iconic of AP watches. I will flip ur SubC and Speedy Pro instead.

They are all such different pieces, I think you have a nice collection! I'd keep the AP and wait on the DD40. I'm just assuming you'd be putting up 15-18k so why not just wait for the balance and add the DD40; make it a 4 piece collection...
How often will you wear a RG piece? It's a very dressy watch IMHO.. A piece that draws A LOT of attention. I don't know what you do business wise, but for me, I prefer stainless pieces. I assume the brown dial?? Its a gorgeous watch, no wrong move either way. |

Stick
You have an iconic collection. Save and wait for a used DD40.

I would personally not do this trade, but if you like it, why not. You can always go back.

I prefer the jumbo but if your heart wants that dd40 then rock on. Beware that a flip from new May cost you big bucks

If you're not wearing the Jumbo, then there's no point of keeping it while your heart desires the DD40!
I would get the Rolex, yes. You can always get the Jumbo back if you want. |

I recently acquired a 15202. I would not do this trade. I also have a RG DDII. The Jumbo is much harder to get than the DD40. I would trade either or both the SubC and Speedy or wait as others have recommended. Based on the for sale section on TRF, the DD40 isn't as in demand and should be readily available for future purchase.

So, let's be logical about this...you are not wearing the AP much; clearly you are very apprehensive about it; you are too worried about scratching it.
To me, the answer is very simple; trade it. What's the point of owning it if you aren't wearing it because you are too worried about scratching it. Sam |

Yes make the trade. I personally wouldn't want to trade a 15202 for just about anything, but if you are not wearing it what's the point of keeping it. Usually when we get to this point where we have to ask... The decision is already made! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No.
DD40 is a very soft market right now (you can get for a steal), but for me it's too flashy. But if it fits with your lifestyle then choice is yours. If you're not wearing AP, then I say sell, but maybe for something besides DD40. |

I agree that the DD40 market is very soft now. For that matter I believe the entire watch market, more for Rolex than others, in general is quite soft at the moment given the world economy.
What's an adequate/good discount % on the RG DD40 at the moment? |

I say go for it, and I understand how you feel about the AP.

I'd start wearing the 15202. Trade for a DD? No sir!

I second this. Your solution is to wear the 15202. It is too classic and awesome a piece to sit in a drawer.
In your position, I would trade your other two watches (+cash) for the DD40.\ Incidentally, I have a 15202 and have contemplated adding a DD40 as well. |

Well seems that for Patek SS pieces the market isn't soft as 2 years ago at the Paris salon they were ok to order for me a 5712, couldn't wait so got a BNIB from a grey dealer, and now that they cost much more, 27.200 to 30.200, the waiting list is so huge that they don't even way to take orders, don't know about other brands or models though, the 5167R is possible, as well as the 5164, but all other SS Nauts and the SS 5167 in France you can forget it except if you are a VIP client...

Thanks for the input guys. After some thought I think the best course is as some mentioned, wear the sh*t out of the AP, hehe. It truly is a great watch and can always be sent to AP for polishing.
Maybe I'll add the DD in the future. Thanks for chiming in. |

I agree you have an iconic collection right now and if it were me I would not, then again as others have said if you are worried about wearing the 15202 it suggests your heart isn't in the watch so why not.
The softness of the market, the merits of the DD40 and whether or not you should instead trade the sub and speedy don't come into play. |

At the end of day, it's still your decision. Having 'iconic' watch that just sits in your safe isn't as much fun as wearing a (less popular) watch more often.

I love the 15202 but i love the DD40 more. If you don't like you AP than trade it for sure. I personally would keep it because i really like the new jumbo but its preference to keep something you don't wear or like wearing.
