Please bring back the 16000 series cases!

I am so disappointed in the new Rolex cases. The fat lugs and crown protectors look ridiculous. For that money I am totally not interested. I am looking at some older model New Never Worn 16570 and 16610LV. My advice to Rolex is to bring back the last model 16000 Series cases. At the very least reduce the lug width and crown guard width or put a 22mm bracelet on there. I also prefer the shape to the older models. it was more artful and masculine. I have yet to talk with anyone who likes the looks of this watch. Comments please!

Please bring back the 16000 series cases!

I have to agree with the OP.

That's why my only "modern" option in the "sub-sea-GMT" line up was the SD4k.

Yup... Couldn't agree more! That is why I flipped my SubC LN for my SDC4K, and have never looked back. And, with as much as I love my Sub LVC based on that dial and bezel...it would get a lot more wrist time if it were of the same case dimensions as SDC4K!!!

Welcome to the forum.

I agree with you, but many do love the new case dimensions. If I get a sub it will be a five-number reference, but hey, I'm an old fogey, what do I know?

I'm the opposite, I prefer the new case, the old crown guards look too dainty, pointy to me for a tool watch. if your gonna have guards and lugs have proper ones!

Those "dainty" pointy CG worked pretty well when it actually was a tool watch.

Except, of course, downsizing the Day-Date to 40mm.

I'm in agreement with OP: there might have been room to make the lugs a little beefier, but Rolex went overboard. It simply does not look as clean on the wrist as the older series. There's no doubt the newer bracelet, bezel, crown guards are better, but stylistically I would welcome slimmer lugs.

Tastes vary.
Different strokes for different folks as they say.
I love the new lugs.
Love the larger appearance it gives the watch.
Given acceptance overall and sales, doubt Rolex feels they made a mistake.

Yes it is all a matter of taste.

If you prefer to wear a good quality watch that flies under the radar, the older the better.

If you want something that stands out, go for the latest model.

Regards

Mick

Sorry, downsizing the DD2 to 40 is not going backwards...it's decreasing the case size. Going backwards would have meant going back to 36mm.

As far as the lugs, it's been debated to death here. As I said, to each his own.

What are you talking about? That's about as clear as mud.

How would Rolex "go backwards" by going to 36mm... when the DD 36mm already exists.

I don't like the beefier lugs either.

I like the new cases in the 40mm size. My wrist just doesn't wear a larger watch, I've tried. I wore an older 36mm case for years, but I like the higher quality of the new materials and bracelets. I don't care for the proportions of the DJII, they just look a little off to me. I know plenty like them and that is just fine. After looking at a 36mm DJ for years, it is imprinted on my mind I suppose. What Rolex did with the 40mm DD I hope they do with the DJII. If I could afford a 40mm DD I'd have one. If they make a 40MM DJ I will have one. The familiar proportions of the 40mm DD just sing to me, the DJII doesn't. But the new cases are superior to the older cases. But luckily there are plenty of both still around to please both tastes.

Sales would suggest they made a move in the right direction. Lucky for you there are plenty of discontinued pieces to be had a great prices.

It's really a matter of taste. While I tend to agree with you, there is obviously market for the 6 digit refs. Luckily there are tons of minty 5 digit refs available on the second hand market, as well as NOS pieces. Or is it the ceramic bezel / lume that you'd prefer on the 5 digit case?

Ever consider a 4 digit reference? 1680, 1665, 1675, 5513? I mean, talk about a time piece with some true character. Vintage is an incredible avenue to explore.
