Clarification needed on trusted seller warranty

Hello all,

I'm close to pulling the trigger on a 114060 Sub but have a question concerning warranty. I'm planning to purchase some one of our valued trusted sellers that provides original AD warranty card.

My question pertains to warranty coverage. A few other threads mentions RSC's requiring an AD bill of sale prior to warranty work.

What is the deal, warranty or no warranty? I can get this at my local AD for only $500 more (once it comes in stock) and if that's what it takes to guarantee a warranty I may be willing to pay that.

Thanks!

You need to discuss the warranty with the seller.

A Grey Market watch does not have a valid warranty and legitimagte Grey Dealers will tell you that and provide their own in-house warranty. A used watch or one purchased from an AD by a re-seller may have a valid warranty.

I'm confused by this.. I purchased my 116610 from one of our grey market dealers and I have a warranty card with my name on it. Are you saying that warranty isn't valid?

Please confirm that the AD's 10 year warranty states that any work will be done in a RSC. Some dealers have an extended warranty, but the work goes to their own in house watch repair service. Which you may or may not consider adequate.

Grey market and trusted sellers can be different.

A trusted seller might be passing on savings he has himself made when buying the watch so can have the full warranty card.

A grey seller may be a bricks and mortar store where they will have bypassed an AD and there will be no warranty card.

The term "grey market" isn't used the same way by everyone. Some say "grey market" referring to all non-AD resellers. Others, like Tools in this context, only call a watch "grey market" if it was parallel imported outside authorized channels. A watch imported into the US by Rolex USA, sold to an AD, and then resold within the US to someone like DavidSW in the USA would not be "grey" by this definition.

Parallel imported watches often have the warranty card removed (Jomashop, etc.) to protect the identity of the AD's they source from. If one of our most trusted sellers says a watch has a valid warranty, I trust them; sometimes it'll even have your name on the papers. Just ask!

The only thing that concerns me is the increase in AD's asking for ID for "warranty" purposes as stated in another thread. I myself would rather not only get the warranty with my name on it, but also to support a local business in the process.

all you have to do is ask David. He'll tell you straight up what the warranty status is of the watch of interest.

I've purchase more than one watch from David and had to use the warranty guarantee on one of them. Brought the watch into RSC, no problem. HAd my watch back in 2 weeks.

Not sure that it makes a difference but for $500 I would much prefer to be the first owner from an AD and get a 5 year warranty that Rolex started providing last year.

For $500 I'd go with the AD all day long if it's brand new.

Also agree. 500 was roughly the same difference for me when purchasing my djii. I went the ad route for the 5year and all stickers on.

$500 plus tax on the whole purchase?

Is it brand new with stickers on it?

Talk with David and find out the specific details on this watch like will your name on the warranty card. He is a great & honest gentleman to deal with!

$500 difference and no sales tax (shipping out of state). Plus the AD doubles the Rolex warranty to 10 years

Buy from the AD and pay $500 more. Then you can have piece of mind.

An AD purchase, no sales tax, and five more years warranty, I think the answer is ...AD.

I haven't bought and traded as so many on the forum have and I have never bought from a trusted seller. I'm actually looking at pieces on David and Thanh Do's websites that would be quite a bit discounted compared to my AD and will likely make my next purchase from a trusted seller. Nothing against any trusted seller but for a $500 difference, I believe I would just go the AD route.

Warranty follows the watch not the original owner or person named on the warranty. If the AD is asking for ID at time of purchase it is not because they are sharing that information with Rolex. All Rolex cares about when trying to get the watch repaired under warranty is if you have a warranty card that is valid (completed properly) and the watch is still within the warranty period.

I've purchased two watches from Thanh Do and both came with all stickers and an AD warranty card with my name on it. But I promise you the savings were well over $500. If $500 gives you peace of mind, and if you will be happy with the dealers additional in-house warranty, then I'd do that.

Rocketman - - I agree with your view. The OP is looking at the $500 difference in price between AD and trusted seller and the 10 year in house warranty. For $500, I would likely go AD too. The pieces I'm interested in are discounted quite a bit more than $500 compared to AD and that is why my next purchase will likely be from a trusted seller. I see several on the forum that have ironclad reputations so I'm comfortable purchasing from them.

As long as any warranty is stamped by a official Rolex AD its covered by the Rolex warranty no matter who or where it was bought whether there is a name on warranty or not. Many buy Rolex as gifts so its possible the name of the owner will not be on the card. Now when the watch is sent in for service then the person sending in the watch for service his/her name will be recorded to that particular serial watch. Its just a watch anyone would think it was the crown jewels with some thinking you must re-register any used or new watch with Rolex after sale.

As others have said, for only $500 more, your AD is the way to go and you will have the full 5 years warranty. That being said, I have never been asked for a bill of sale but only the warranty card for service.

Are you looking at a popular/hard to find model?

As mentioned $500 is not much, I am sure you could negotiate with the AD..

A 10 year warranty, I am sure you will use that before it expires..

If you buy a watch from a grey dealer that is no longer under factory warranty, then you have the grey dealer warranty. If you buy a BNIB watch from a grey dealer, then you just have the Rolex (or other brand) warranty. I find this rather logical.... am I missing something?
