Once you put a Daytona on your wrist, there's no going back. Congrats!

I think a few people fell into the 'big watch' fad, now that's abating people are starting to realise 36mm-41mm is the perfect size for watches.

Sorry. But that's relatively silly. It was never a fad, and it's not going anywhere.

And who cares what other people think? Why even bring it up?

Wear what you like, without worrying about others, and you will enjoy your own stuff that much more.

The "perfect" size for a watch will always be relative to the wearer, and what they like. This, will always be based on a number of factors.

My opinion that's all.....a lot of people who previously dismissed a Daytona as too smal are now buying the Daytona and thinking the size is perfect .... Possibly such as the OP....he stated he was a 'Daytona naysayer' which could be for the reason I have stated.

Fair enough.

Personally, that makes a lot more sense to me than starting the "big watches" are a fad discussion.

The Daytona is a great watch. And personally one of my all time favorites. But there are many reasons some people might initially dismiss it. Lack of ability to read the dial, minimal lume, pcl's, no date, no need for a chrono, and potentially the relatively small size for a 40mm watch.

Once it gets tried on, many of those reasons could potentially be dismissed based on the beauty and comfort of the watch. It's a true stunner. I love just about everything about it.

Just my own personal opinion.

I agree to a point... I do think that watches have been trending larger when you compare today's watches even to the '90s. With Breitling trending down it's superocean line, the ride is definitely over. I think it's more of a targeted audience than a fad these days.

As I've gotten older, my watches of gotten smaller my taste has leaned more towards classical designs. The Daytona definitely hits those marks. It's just hard for me to read.

Agree that they have been trending larger over the last decade.

But big watches have been around for many decades. And if you look around today, they are everywhere.

Go into nearly any watch store and the majority of watches are on the larger side. Today, men's watches smaller than 39mm are probably in the minority by a large percentage.

For me personally, 39 - 42 is my sweet spot. And a small 39 or a large 42 just don't do it for me.

But as a whole, while some people such as yourself are gravitating towards smaller more classical designs, it appears that in the grand scheme of things that's just not the case.

On the topic itself, the Daytona might just be a perfect sized piece as it really fits in the middle. Not big or small really. It's kind of in the sweet spot of you ask me.

It immediately was noticeably smaller some other watches but I like the size. No issues at all there. I feel it's a great fit.

Thanks Superdog. I really liked the Daytona when I started looking at Rolex watches again in Nov. I was disappointed in the shininess of the bezel and lack of readability. I wanted a Chrono and started a thread "would anyone choose a VC OC over a Daytona." I ended up with the VC OC at the time for the above reasons. It was a great discussion in my eyes but I said throughout the discussion that the Daytona is an epic watch and I never dismissed it. I always suspected I might end up with one. I like it more than I would have expected. I've also become interested in the Omega Speedmaster Mitsukoshi conversion. For now I'm very happy with this watch. Thanks to all. Russell.
