1. I was told by my AD sales person that I can clean my watch with windex or ammonia base product. While reading the rolex booklet, it just says soapy water and cloth.

2. Also, my ad states that I shouldn't change the date from 9pm-3am. The rolex booklet never warns of this.
I have a michele watch that does warn of this though.

On a side note I know my watch has a 5 yr warrenty, but I see on the back of the booklet holding case it states. "Should your rolex need adjustment during the next two years, return it." I assume this is just for bracelet adjustment.

All cleaning products are not the same so be careful. I had a few of the older GMT's 30 years ago. My wife when we got married worked at a Jewelry store. That store used Mr. Clean and water 50/50 in there ultrasonic cleaners for rings and chains. Its does a great job so that transferred over to my home and our jewelry through the years. However after about a year I noticed the bezel insert on my older Aluminum bezel Rolex was faded out quite a bit. So even through now my bezels are Ceramic I only use Body wash and a old toothbrush to clean my watches. Rings and chains still get Mr. Clean in my ultrasonic cleaner.

No, no.... you are correct and I did typo a wrong answer to the first question. Ammonia will have zero affect on either the stainless steel or the sapphire crystal.. (although soap and water is all you need)

Awesome Larry!! I just found that these products removed grime in between links quite effectively for me. I definitely understand the mild soap and water works, well however I just took the lazy route out of cleaning the bracelet.

#1 - Is that for 904L as well? It would seem that sapphire and chemical plant process steel would do OK with household cleaning products.

I've used Windex as well as Dawn and years ago also used plain Colgate toothpaste. Never had one issue whatsoever. My 2c.

On your second question, I know some ETA movements advise against that, but I haven't heard that about modern Rolex.

On the warranty question, the 5 year warranty is a fairly new thing. Maybe the booklet is older.

Windex eh? sounds a little harsh on the piece. I just wear it in the shower every so often.

Its sad today that many ADs talk through where the sun dont shine,and moral of story -old saga say many AD staff not always speak from mouth. But may make noises and grunts from rear end and inside dress/trousers ,much like a bull it's called bulls**t which sadly today many ADs are very good at.Myself use just plain old soap and water tried and tested well over the last almost 40 years..

My experience with the ADs is that these guys are typically just salesmen that are full of bullshit most of the time. For example, before i got my hulk, an AD in maui said that the state of california did not have any Hulks for the months of December, and I picked mine up in Anaheim the next day. The sales guy also said that the hulk bezels are so hard to make that 9 out of 10 end up in the garbage. I tend to take what they say with a grain of salt.

The real myth is that ADs are staffed by highly trained experts that know everything about every watch ever made.

The average person working at an AD knows about the same as the average person working in any retail job.

Most people that visit this forum regularly know much more than any random person working at an AD.

For us, watches are a passion. For most people working at an AD, it's just a job.

I have used an eye-glass cleaner from time to time as it is less harsh/abrasive but I go with the soapy water (ivory brand). I do it every few days as it is a bonding moment between me and my watches lol.

At most AD's the employees are your average salesmen trying to make a buck. I have run into a few that knew what they were talking about but that was usually few and far between.
