Best Rolex diver watch?
Just curious which you all prefer? And with date or no date?

What is your definition of the word "best"?

Well you got the Sea Dweller, Sub and GMT that all look similar and you can only buy one, which would it be?

Out of dive watches, DSSD, sub or SD. I'd pick the SD. There all designed to go deeper then any rec. diver will ever go. GMT isn't much of a dive watch even though it has a oyster case and is water proof.

For truly diving, I would get a DSSD and throw it on a NATO

This gives you the benefit of the Sub while not having to wear a weight belt.

For me, my favorite is the 14060; no date and a truly the last of the tool watch no dates. They are more comfortable for me than the newer ceramic no dates. I also like the old style simplicity. Among other things is the easy changing of bracelets that the through hole lugs allow. Here mine on a winter time leather Nato.
An alternative to consider in the Tudor Pelagos in Blue of Black. Also a really great dive watch. I personally also like the Black Bay as an alternative dive watch. Below is my Black Bay Red. In truth any of them will likely do the job for diving. |

as a dive and everyday watch, sub date ss. as a dive watch, sub nd. as a compromise, pelagos blue and a explorer 39mm.

As a dive watch SD or SS sub are great choices. The SD is a little more robust (thicker metal and crystal) but still wears comfortably and doesn't look like a large block of metal strapped to your wrist.
I dive my SD a lot. It's a great dive watch. But I don't need to see the date when I'm diving. If you need the date function, go with a sub date for the Cyclops. |

The Pelegos blue in my opinion rates higher than the Submariner and Sea Dweller. The Ti, inhouse movement, and lumed ceramic bezel are all winners.

I think it's a great watch and the adjustable clasp in concept was great BUT not having the pivot makes it not as refined and the springs for the auto adjustable feature are too strong, so they mount the watch too tight for my taste. |

Yes, but it doesn't seem the OP specified the dive watch that actually functions as a true dive watch for actual diving. If he had, the Pelagos is a pretty decent pick. The springs seem strong, but for actual fitment over a 5mm wetsuit......I can tell you that the auto-adjusting bracelet functions beautifully to adapt to the compression of your wetsuit at depth. I bought my Pelagos hoping it could take the place of my diver for actual diving. Unfortunately, it has a drawback that was a real concern IMHO. The bezel is only 60-click, so it is difficult to set the bezel precisely when starting to descend. When cross-referencing my elapsed dive time with my digital gauge, I was usually 1-2 min off. That never happened with the 120-click bezel of the Rolex divers. I wish it had drilled-through lug holes, but otherwise it did tick many boxes......with the exception of the 60-click bezel issue. It was a deal breaker for me. What is the best actual diver?? Drilled through lug holed 14060M, 16610, or 16600 IMHO. The 16600 edges the 14060M slightly due to the date. I realize that you don't need the date while actually diving, but you do need it while analyzing mixed gases and tagging dive tanks. I guess you could say that the 16610 edges out the 16600 due to the fact that it has on less hole in the midcase for a seal to fail. Why not the new ceramics with their "superior" bracelets?? Lack of drilled through lug holes and the fact that the bezel is not really end-user removable. I can't tell you how key it has been for me the couple times that I have jammed the bezel to a frozen position to be able to pop the bezel off and clean underneath to bring it back to proper functioning. I guess the other issue for me is cost of repair if the is breakage/damage to the bezel insert. I can stomach $100 or less for a new bezel insert vs 4-5x that cost or more. This is all just through personal experience and JMHO of course. Maybe a couple pics of these doing their job after this long ramble.

I vote submariner date. Classic iconic watch. The seadweller is obviously exceptional but, as stated above, the submariner is rated deeper than you will ever go and to me the cyclops is very important because it screams "Rolex"

Sea-Dweller 4000. While I do love the Sub no-date I really prefer that the Sea-Dweller is NOT as common in the "wild"

The sub will be my first choice the sea dweller second and dssd third .the sub is just nice fits your wrist with your wet suit on so is the s d the dssd is built like a tank but tends to get banged about while diving due to its bulk

I prefer the look of the 14060 and 16610 but I like the flexibility you get with a glide lock on the ceramics. And as I am more of a function over form person, I would end up with a ceramic for that reason.
