Underwhelmed by PM Daytona

Finally got around to visit an AD to try a PM Daytona. I was a little surprised by how light it feels compared to the other PM sports models (I had previously tried a PM Sub). Given that heft is part of the allure of PM watches, does anyone else share in this sentiment?

Is this maybe what pushes some to go for the platinum Daytona? I know that is a whole other ballpark in terms of weight...

Underwhelmed by PM Daytona

No, absolutely NOT.

205 grams is very heavy for a 39.5mm watch.

205 grams is the weight of the white gold Daytona? What is the weight of the Stainless Steel version?

I respectfully disagree. Weight is subjective.

Panerai by virtue of overall weight beats out many manufacturers. Same size.

Heft vs. Sophistication

If heft is more important to you, it's likely you will end up with pm watch at some stage.

On the other hand if sophistication of the movement is more important you may end up buying something from Richard Mille. You won't feel the heft but you will have an amazingly sophisticated movement to admire.

Neither is wrong: just don't assume pm is the only path to follow.

I don't really value heft so I find the PM daytonas wear really nice as they hug the wrist. Sadly I do not own one

Weight difference is small only 10 grams or so, whereas the Platona is another fifty on top. For me a ceramic and contrasting bezel helps with the size and aesthetic.

Time to retire that shot and take some new ones

For OP, like Tom said the Plat Daytona is a heavy watch and would be very surprised if you tried it on thinking it's not anything less.

I don't think the OP tried on the Pt Daytona. He just said "PM" and that it was lighter than the PM Sub. So, presumably, it was one or more of the 18kt models.

LOL - I thought it, you said it

I mean, it's a legendary pic but can't live off the spoils forever. What have you done for me lately

i agree..after buying my first pm (after 2 SS watches) i don't think i could go back to SS...I now "NEED" the heft and have actually been thinking about swapping my WG sub for a platona or Plat DD 40...Any chance of a Plat Sub ?

Are you sure you tried the platinum Daytona on?

Cause you really are a poor judge of weight, it weighs 283 grams!!

The platinum Daytona IS THE HEAVIEST WATCH ROLEX MAKES

It is near two full ounces heavier than the weight of the full gold watches

Just sounds like it's not for you so just move on

Everyone appreciates different things

I was referring to the 18k gold Daytona, not Pt. I agree Pt is on a whole other level.

I am very happy with the weight of my gold Daytona. The only "lighter" Daytona would be a Zenith. Personally think it is perfect the way it is.

205 is heavy. My DSSD is 215 and I feel the heft compared to SS Daytona 145gms.

Idk. For some people weight seems to really matter. For example, my wife stopped wearing her other Rolexes that are at least partially stainless once she got the Pearlmaster. She says she can't even tell the others are on her wrist. Funny from a 5'1" critic. By comparison I don't really like the weight and despite a large collection that includes several PM watches I go with my SS DJ with WG Tbird bezel and silver stick dial every day.
