So my DayDate II is sitting in a bag of rice.........
So I came home from a nice morning jog and had to get ready and get to work.
I put on my DD, set it, wind it 40 times, then proceed to take a shower. A minute or two into the shower I look and notice the stem is out I jump out of the shower and grab a bag of rice, and now I'm typing this. So my question is, am I safe? It wasn't submerged under water in the ocean or pool. Maybe a few shampoo bubbles lol.... |

Larry (Tools) would be better answering this, but I am pretty sure you are fine. Even with the stem out it has water resistance.

You're probably ok, but why not have the crown side of the watch in the rice?

No it wasn't Uncle Ben
No I didn't try to push rice into movement No this isn't an older DD I have no idea why I put my watch on first, probably cause I was excited to set date/time I read the first few posts and realized they have the seals in for a reason, so I pulled it out the bag.......and proceeded to wash off the rice residue for about 10 minutes. Watch has been on with zero clouding and the movement is running on point with time.gov Thanks for the help and funny responses guys, made my day |

Watch is a 2014/2015

The water seals are inside, the gasket in the crown is simply a secondary seal - hence "Twin-lock" It also would do no good to open the crown and stuff it in the rice for the same reason - nothing can get out from the crown either..

I agree with others, your watch will be fine. Rolex think of these things during R&D, I would presume. |

I would flip the crown side down so if anything got in it might drain out. I am pretty sure there is a gasket that prevents this even with the crown out. Water might collect in the beginning, but not inside.

What I would do is take the stem out and put the stem side of the watch into the rice. So if there is any water inside it would drip out and the rice can work its magic. I have done this rice trick with my iPhone a while back and it worked. Hopefully in this case it will work too!! Good luck!! |

Kidding aside, my understanding is that the seal around the stem itself does most of the work in waterproofing the movement. So should be fine is my guess since he caught it quickly ie didn't go swimming with it.

I'm not really sold on the whole rice thing grabs moisture. I know it's been said to work, but does it really?
OP, I think your watch should be fine with the internal seals.. GL |

It should not be a problem if the stem seals are in good shape.

I always take my watch off, but I know how you feel --- always worried about my cell phone if it fell into water.
Anyway, here is an interesting article with various materials used to absorb water. http://smartphones.wonderhowto.com/h...phone-0154799/ |

To the OP.
It should be ok. In the past, a watch equipped with a twinlock crown has been tested to > 200 meters with the crown unscrewed with no water entry resulting. The case back was reportedly permanently deformed and crushed against the movement inside. To check for water ingress, get an ice-cube and place it on the centre of the crystal for a short period. The cold will condense water vapour on the underside of the crystal if there is a problem. The rice is indeed most likely scratching the watch case. Don't worry it won't be first scratches and they won't be the last. |

I could understand if you ran with your watch on, and then jumped in the shower to wash off the sweat - but not the other way around. Just curious. |

Why not dab a square of toilet roll paper around the stem, see if it draws out any water.
