Bitten by the Rolex Bug!

Hi everyone,

Its only been 2 weeks since the purchase of my TT GMT-Master IIc and the desire to purchase another one has peaked. Although I have been obsessing about a solid gold rolex for some time now, it is only now that I have decided to purchase one. I have shortlisted 3.

18k Day-Date
18k Daytona with Meteorite dial
18k Daytona with champagne dial

Looking for advise on which one to purchase as I am only 18 and I don't know if I can carry off a president!

I would go for the 18k DD champagne dial that's some serious bling and a classical watch too

Welcome to TRF

I shouldn't let age get in your way!
Take a look at all 3 and see which one that you prefer the most.
What would your intentions be?
I have owed three DD's and they are generally regarded as the ultimate Rolex that most people try to achieve to own. It is a truly classic Rolex
Though saying that the Daytona with the Meteorite dial is an absolutely stunning watch.
Good luck with your decision making and let us know what you get.

Its basically going to be used as a dress watch as the GMT-Master is a bit too casual to be worn with a dinner jacket.

That's a really cool watch but I'd prefer something a little more showey considering I am spending £££££!

I do understand the discreet appeal of WG but would prefer something in YG.

A solid gold daytona with the modern newmad dial is also a very cool watch

Those are some pretty serious watches for an 18 year old! If you don't mind me asking, what line of work are you in?

Have been playing the stock market for about 3 years now from the money I made from all sorts of odd IT jobs at school.

Unfortunately my pockets aren't deep enough to buy all three and not feel a little out of pocket! So, I am now in a very difficult situation, DD oy Daytona.
I do feel that the DD would better complement the TT GMT but the solid Gold Daytona has unquestionable appeal as well. I could get both but it would then mean I would have to compromise on some other things like a bespoke suit from Savile Row or the bottles of Dom Perignon to which I have grown accustomed.

Hey - well done .

I'd say definitely go for the YG Day-Date - it's got to be the ultimate dress watch and you'll look great wearing it .

I read the thread and believed the guy until he started mentioning "bespoke Saville Row suits" and the Dom Perignon to which he has "become accustomed", just seemed a bit far fetched really... Apologies if you actually are legitimate, I'm just a cynic by nature...

Yes, my parents are comfortably off, but I have made most of this money alone taking their help when I needed it.

Oh come on, don't pretend you earned it. I don't mean to be mean, you were born into money, that's fine - but there are many people here who really worked for their money, built businesses from the ground up, etc. etc.

Right now you're just 'fronting', as we say. :P In any event, I'm sure you'll be able to get all the watches you want, so just get whichever sings to you.

You need money to make money! The more you have to start off with the better your chances are. I have earned it mostly because I had the chance to go to an elite bording school in England where everyone was free and easy with their money and hence I saw ways of helping them unload their immense wealth and unburden themselves

Guys, on another note, I heard the meteorite Daytonas were rare, so, are they as hard to get as the SS Daytona models?

Nope, you can walk into any AD and they are more than happy to order one for you, what is more rare is how many they sell in a year. Last time I was in my AD, he had a Y serial sitting in his case.

I may be a bit biased but here is the best combo for you with your SS GMT llc

But my gmt is 2-tone, so it has a bit of bling as well, but as you can see from one of my previous posts, that is what I am leaning towards as well.

Very few are as hard to come by as the SS Daytona..

However, champagne dials are passe', so I would stick with the Meteorite...or go SS...
