There is a program on History Channel right now on beer. Some really smart people are saying that the cultivation of grains to make beer over 4000 years ago was the first seeds of civilization. I KNEW THAT!!!

And I'm not a smart man.

(See how smart I am? I used seeds and cultivation in the same sentence.

Adrian being a Brit will know this but Britain during the industrial revolution largely escaped wide outbreaks of water born diseases because of the preference for the working classes to drink tea and beer rather than water.

Licensing laws were only introduced into Britain in WW1, because the government wanted to control the drunken working classes consumption which was effecting the war effort

In Britain there is an organisation called Campaign for real ale (Camra) which has helped to revive interest in regional and smaller breweries. Camra was set up in the 1970's as a response to the large breweries trying to kill off local and smaller brewers.

Thought I would hop back in here and I see I barley made it.

There are some good American beers on the market now with the advent of the many local micro breweries popping up all over the country. I really like trying their offerings in my travels. It's not all water. Although, I will admit 6 or 8 Coors Lights on the golf course are pretty refreshing. Just hate restocking at the turn.

Yup, InBev in Belgium.

While I usually enjoy a better American beer (Summit, Sierra Nevada, etc.), sometimes there's no substitute for the refreshment of a PBR. My wife who ususally hates beer has taken a liking to Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy.
