Other obsessions!!!

Now I may be treading on thin ground....but the very fact that there are a cosiderable number of Rolex addicts on this sight at any given time suggests a mild obsession with the watch and the brand! My question is.....what (if anything else) do TRF members have a similar sort of passion for?? I'll start the ball rolling with shoes. I always buy Church's shoes which are double the price of other quality shoe brands....take 8 weeks to be made by hand and are a wonder to behold (or put on your feet for that matter!!!)

Watches, bicycles, knives, music, gardening, home audio, collectible art, computers, nice cars. That's enough. I have more expensive hobbies than money so I am slowing down in my old age. I do buy quality so it last longer. I am pounding money away for retirement. I have a way larger than average amount of savings and should retire very comfortably. That is my biggest passion now. I can delay immediate gratification very well. The Porsche dealer called me yesterday. The Cabriolet Convertible that I test drove a month ago was $103,780. I could have written him a check for it. He now called and offered it at $10,000 less so $93,000. I still could buy it but will not. It took me many years to convince myself that a Rolex was OK to own.

Shoes are an issue... I like Trickers. On a recent trip to Beijing I had a great pair of laced boots made from Italian leather by a bespoke shoe maker.

I would like to make a distinction between the things I own and I would like to own. I own and collect:

Just own, sometimes buy another one:

Would like to own:

http://www.hangar4.nl/photo/index1.p...;20of%20Desire

Furthermore, books, mainly about modern history, vintage advertising and cookbooks. A couple of fountain pens. I like good shoes, usually go for perhaps unknown brands like Greve, Van Lier, Van Bommel and Avang. My dream is to have a pair made.

My next purchase will be a small Leica digital camera. That all folks!
