I buggered up my 1570 today...

I was having trouble setting the stem and apparently backed out the keyless set screw too far (or broke it). Now I need to either re-set it or replace parts (as it may have broken). Tightening it I can hear a faint 'click' like it is trying to catch something and not making it.

How far do I have to tear this thing down to reset/check it?

Who is local in CT to do this for a fee/beer? (Movement was overhauled by local AD for $800 including parts recently- like within two years) Not inclined to go back there as I was not impressed with the time frame and other details...

I have reset Eta keyless more times than I care to remember but I have only torn down and rebuilt one 1570 in the past (this one before overhaul) and I don't remember the keyless arrangement (and can't find anything useful on the web either).

I assume the dial and hands come off, which is easy enough, but do I need to take the back (autowind/train/barrel) bridge(s) off?

If something actually broke you might want to get a complete service, some debris could have gotten lose and make it's way to the more delicate parts but that is completely up to you.
You need to take the hands and dial off ofcourse, then the date system and the keyless. Check it to see if something broke if not you can just put it back together, take your time and you'll figure out how, it's not that hard.

But as you probaby don't have anything to clean the parts and then lube them again I really recommend a service.

No date. 5512 movement. I may tear it down but need to not touch it for a while it it is liable to end up in the yard via a closed window...

I have suitable grease and solvents for a keyless but not the variety for a full Rolex movement.

That's great, the date can be a pain sometimes. I'd clean the parts in benzine or isopropanol, let them dry and then lube the parts that have friction.

Don't worry I think no part is broken. Once you can see the complete remontoir just check the complete system and sure you'll find the piece out of its place.

Confirmed: the set screw broke. And it broke flush with the retainer plate, so I might need that as well...

Tore it down a bit to see that much but the barrel bridge needs to come off to get the captive set screw out. That means the train bridge has to come out too. In other words, a near compete tear down.

I may put it back together and send it off.

It was just overhauled so you would have thought something like this would be checked...

So the sort of "C" shaped bit close to the outside of the movement is the retainer. It has a bit of the set screw stuck in it. I have to put it away again to work on other stuff now.
