Anyone else feel that the stem/crown is too flimsy?

I have an ss diver and 44 steel and both stems/crowns feel extremely flimsy and fragile when I pull them out to set the time... Almost like the stem is way too thin and the crown is barely attached to it. Anyone else feels the same way? Feels a bit too fragile to me... None of my other watches feel like this on the stem/crown.

I mean as compared to my sub, sure my 15400 "feels" more delicate. Though I have not heard of any specific issues resulting from the stem/crown being delicate or flimsy.

I actually feel the same, when I pull the stem of the crown to wind or adjust the time, I am always a little surprised of how weak it feels, that is, compared to the Rolex watches in my collection.

Yes, I also think that they have that fragile feel to them once you pull them out. It's hard to tell if they are in fact fragile or they just feel that way. Perhaps they are plenty strong but just have that fragile feel because the stem moves sideways a bit.

I find Rolex more problematic in that I really have to tug hard to get it out at times. I feel as though I am more likely to damage it for that reason.

So is this constant comparing AP to Rolex a TRF thing of is this something that happens generally speaking? I'm not criticizing it or complaining, I totally do the same thing as I'm been into Rolex for almost 20 years, been admiring AP for a couple years and only owned for a few months.

I can tell you first hand AP does not like being compared to Rolex. Every rep, or employee of AP I've ever made a Rolex comment to gets pretty defensive.

Anyway, just thought it was interesting as many have already comment and made the comparison here.

I think Rolex is the baseline that people are familiar with, not to mention the majority of content on this forum. On other AP forums, I don't actually recall much comparison if any. Not sure why AP reps may get defensive when hearing about Rolex, but my guess would be there may be people that they come across that think the prices of AP are crazy when Rolex is already a top tier watch in their minds. Who knows though, just my guess.

Yes, it's rather flimsy and fragile, esp compared to Rolex. I always exercise maximum caution when trying to pull out the crown to set the time or wind the watch. It's one of the negative for me for owning APs. They certainly can do a lot better.

Agree with ben. Never liked it but never had any issues either. I love the feeling of a triplock and glidelock

I particularly thought it felt akward on my diver c as the watch felt so solid aside from that. On the RO it felt reasonable.

I think it's just the tube size rather than the actual stem. It doesn't feel as sturdy as other watches but it's not fragile either if there aren't issues. I'm sure AP would have easily changed the design if the crown was too fragile.

I'm pretty sure that the APs are longer than Rolex stems due to the larger case/smaller movement diameter, so this may be another factor.

About the flimsy feeling, I agree.

I agree that it feels thin when winding, but that's the wonder of engineering.
