What watch do I have? Model? Age?
Hi everyone,
I own the watch that is in the photos below, however I have no idea what I actually have or how old it is? What model do I own? Roughly, how old is the watch? My best guess is that it dates back to the early 1980's. I am not looking for information to sell the watch, as it is/will be a family heirloom. The watch works perfectly, and the time is very accurate. Any ideas? Thank you |

Rolex 1005, I think. Photos aren't that great. Not sure about that bracelet though. Serial number and model number are between the lugs. Better, more clear pictures will help. You do the legwork and we will have more info

Hi everyone,
I posted a few more pictures, that are of higher quality. Yes, the watch was refurbished two weeks ago by an authorized Rolex jewelry store. I have never removed the band before, so I am reluctant to do so out of fear of damaging the watch. Does anyone have any insight as to obtaining an appraisal of the watch for insurance purposes? Where is the best place to have it done? Thank you |

* remove the bracelet to get the model and serial # * remove the caseback to inspect the movement * with above 2 done, then maybe even give you an appraisal Otherwise, you will just get a bunch of "guesses" |

When you had it "refurbished" at an authorized Rolex store they gave you a receipt with all the info of the watch.
Have you even looked at it? |

Sadly I now own the watch because a family member passed away, and I inherited it. He had it refurbished literally a few days before he passed. I do not have the receipt from the jewelry store.

or in less than 5 minutes, you can remove the bracelet and mystery solved. I am 99.99% sure the removal will NOT damage the watch. |

I realize that this is simply a forum of strangers, but you are trash. I will sleep soundly this evening, even with your feelings about my post. And contrary to what you "believe" about my watch, I am proud to own it after I lost my uncle. I will forever cherish the watch, and hopefully pass it along to my children. And to everyone who actually helped me identify the model #, I greatly appreciate it! |

Take the bracelet off or take it to the repair shop and have them check it out. Removing the bracelet is easy enough with through lugs that are apparent. It's an Oyster Perpetual from before the switch to luminova and before T<25 tritium. Values is likely a few thousand dollars maximum. The bracelet looks newer than the watch and there's no guarantee that the bezel originally came with the watch.

Once again thank you to the people who were actually helpful in this thread. Then there are the scumbags who are a waste of time.......
I took the watch to a well respected jewelry store (not an authorized Rolex dealer), and they took the band off to find the model and serial #'s. He also did an appraisal on the watch for insurance purposes. He confirmed that the watch is in fact a 1005, and based upon the serial #, he believes the watch dates to the late 1970's or early 1980's. As I noted earlier in the thread, before my uncle passed away he had the watch "serviced". I have no receipts from that service, but I assume that they didn't do a great job because the watch does not keep a power reserve if not worn for a day. I last wore the watch on Friday, and when I looked at it tonight it was over 3 hours off. I guess it needs an overhaul. |
