Who can tell me about this watch?

I'm curious about this watch that I inherited three years ago. I believe it is from the mid 60s. I didn't like the bracelet that it had (the end links never seemed to fit flush and it looked sloppy) so I put this zulu on it. Other than heavy scratches on the plastic crystal I think it's a great looking watch.

Again, curious if anybody knows much about this watch... Please discuss!

Pretty watch, congrats. I'd put it on a padded black alligator strap, would look fantastic.

You can buff those scratches right out tonight in about 20 minutes, go to the store and buy Brasso brass polish and some masking tape, get an old t-shirt, put the tape on all the metal components of the case, apply a dime-sized dab of Brasso in a circular motion on the plastic crystal applying decent pressure, allow it to dry, and buff off. Repeat a few times until all the scratches are gone.

What is the reference number between the lugs on the 12:00 side?

Reference 1003

Engine turned bezel, 34mm. A fine watch.

Thanks. It is a very cool looking watch. For awhile I was wearing it daily. Do I need to have it serviced at all if I feel it's running fine. Winding it and setting is much stiffer than my newer watches, is that normal?

Who can tell me about this watch?

If it keeps good time you might skip service for a while. If you don't know the last time it was serviced, then have it pressure checked before diving into the pool or ocean.
If you are on the conservative side, then go ahead with an overhaul and the acrylic crystal can be replaced.

Edit: and if it's stiff winding, that could be a sign it's time to do the service - if for no other reason than to make it easier on your fingers

I have one of these and I love it, but when it's running, the second hand sweeps somewhat jerkily from 8 to 10 on the dial. Keeps excellent time, within 20 seconds a day, but that little "turbulence" upsets me, and I'm not overly OCD. It's been serviced and my watchmaker declared "no issues" so I'm stuck. Any ideas?
