Question on buying Daytona C. 40% deposit

Hi, I am in the states and have bought watches from this Jeweler in the past. They are in Europe.
They are AD's for many lines, but not Rolex. I do trust them as they have a brick and mortar store and have had good service in the past. Bought 2 watches in past year at great prices.
So, they are asking for a 40% deposit, and I can get one of the first ones that they get. They claim it will probably be September at the earliest, and they have a great supplier. I can buy the watch at MSRP.
Do I do this deal?? Will it void the warranty?(I guess I can ask them this question).
I think I should go with it. Also, never paid any duty fees or anything last time.

Well if you trust them I think September is a good time frame for an msrp buy.

I don't like the "probably" portion and I personally wouldn't be comfortable with the terms considering they are not a rolex AD. Ymmv

I have a hard time believing this. Why would an AD sell to a grey at below MSRP so the grey dealer could sell at MSRP. Wouldn't the AD be better served to just sell at MSRP and make more money? Personally I wouldn't give them any money ahead of time.

Really, and what are you implying besides the fact that you are a car salesman.

interesting points you all make, I will wait for the paperwork to come over and I will review it. I agree, why would an AD sell to a grey market below msrp, so he can sell to me at MSRP.
I will ask this question, and report back.

A non-Rolex Jewellery store is going to get you a ceramic Daytona by September when he has no way to get a ceramic Daytona from Rolex. lol. Think about that.

I always pay a deposit to jump the queue for a Rolex as really impatient and always paranoid prices will go up before I get. To jump queue for BLNR I've paid the full price already

Im pretty impatient too. I called around to several ADs until I found a BLNR. Most of them said I could be on a waitlist from 2-6 weeks.

The question is why don't you just buy from an AD?

I would if I could, can't find anyone that will sell, they have lists.

I will do all my due diligence and ask the right questions.

My AD ordered one and said September no waiting list.

If you buy 2 as you said in one post, you'll be fronting about $10,000 for a promise of future delivery.
If anything goes wrong, it'd be contract law in that foreign country that would be your only remedy. I believe the legal fees would exceed your loss.
For those reasons, I'd wait on regular availability.

I would be covered on my credit card, that is how I paid for the last 2 watches I bought. I just need to check with the time frame allowed for a charge-back with my credit card.
That being said, it is relatively risk free

I'm sorry, and with all due respect, but this makes absolutely no sense. Taking into consideration the relative scarcity of this watch, the high demand, and the huge potential for fraud, you should only buy 'face to face' from a USA Rolex AD, imho. Too much can go wrong in the scenario you've described, and you've also got to worry about an international shipping transaction (and everything that could go wrong there, too). Buy a 116619 (wg blue sub) or a 116719 (wg gmt blro), enjoy the hell out of it, then get on a list, and wait for a Daytona C to appear at a US Rolex AD.

Regards, -rick.

With all due respect, it sounds like you've made your decision and you're just looking for affirmation. You've said that there is no risk of losing your money, and it's from a company from which you've previously done business and has previously shown you good will, and it's for a watch that you want. This thread would have made more sense prior to you purchasing your first Rolex watch from them.

So the better question is "what are you waiting for?"

Sounds slightly too good to be true.

I put a deposit with an AD and I'm worried (honesty about my position in line, estimated time to get my watch)... I'd be even more worried with leaving 40% to a shop that isn't an AD.

If you're comfortable with them, I'd do it. Then again, I'm going crazy right now as its my first rolex and waiting really sucks.

Sounds pretty fishy but if you believe that you can eliminate the risk or diminish it to a point that you feel comfortable, I say go for it! It does, however, seem too good to be true, at face value...
