TSA Checkpoint: I'm not comfortable putting my watch in the bin. What do?

I don't fly often, I'm not really comfortable with the idea of taking my watch off and putting it in the bin.

What do you frequent fliers do?

I wear mine through LAX metal detector with no problem whatsoever. Only a few airports outside US that ask me to remove the watch so I always carry an Oakley watch vault with me (so I can just throw it in my carry-on).

Or put it in your carry on.

Several of us on TRF fly every single week. I never use their change bin for anything.

I take an Oakley or Casebudi when I travel and used to put my watch in it and then in my carry on. But since everyone here said just walk it through the metal detector I've started doing that and haven't been stopped yet.

I also don't use the doggie dish for anything other than spare change. Keys and anything else go in my carryon.

Wear it. The worst that can happen is they make you lift up your sleeve after going through the scanner to see that its a watch

If it's the newer body scanner, it's fine to wear.

Before that, I would take it off my wrist well before the security area and stash it deep in my carry on.

I never had to take it off at the airport. I was made to take it off for Jury duty a few weeks ago. When I asked if I really had to take it off, I was told "yeah, what are you wearing a Rolex or something" the security guard was a real jerk. Ended up going back out putting it in my jacket pocket and walking through. He said to no one in particular "thinks he's got a Rolex or something" a few times. I didn't confirm his suspicion.

the bailiffs at the entrance make you remove your wristwatch when entering the county courthouse here as well...surprised it didn't trigger the metal detector while you had it in your jacket pocket.

TSA Checkpoint: I'm not comfortable putting my watch in the bin. What do?

So here's SOP - if airport uses full body scan, they don't care - just wear it.
If not, I take it off and put in briefcase along with everything else from my pockets.

You'll have plenty of time to figure that out during your 2-hour wait in line...

I used to put it in my carry on. But based on comments on similar threads, I now keep it on my wrist. Never been stopped for my watch.

Shaving cream....that is another story.....pretty dangerous stuff

I always wear a jacket/blazer when I fly. Everything except cash goes into its pockets, fold twice and put in the bin with other items. I can redress as I walk to the gate. Last couple of times I've left my watch on and gotten no comments.

I put it in the hand carry bag along with all the rest of the valuables.

We lost an (at the time) expensive cellphone in Kuwait when traveling years ago because we put it in a tray and forgot to pick it up. Learned our lesson the hard way I guess so now everything goes in a closed bag.

Our travels have largely been international through Europe and Asia via the Middle East. Policies seen always to be changing and vary from country to country and also from destination to destination.
