DSSD or AP Diver
Wanted to get some input from TRF. I know this is the AP section, so I might get a biased result, but here it is.
I'm looking at picking up a minimal piece to put into the rotation. Something you would wear almost on a daily basis. I've been looking at the Rolex DSSD D-Blue and the AP Diver with white dial. The DSSD James Cameron just gets my attention for some reason. I've never been a big Rolex guy, but this one really sings to me. I do have an Explorer 2 that I rotate in every once in a while. On the other hand, the AP Diver with White dial ahs always been of interest to me. I'm thinking I can add a white strap during the summer and would add some versatility. My only concern is this would be a 3rd ROO to my collection. I already have a ROO 44 in FC and RG. Should I venture away from the ROO line this time around and get something different? |

Based on your current collection I would go with the DSSD -- it's a very enjoyable reference and can definitely be worn daily - I wore mine daily for quite some time.
Good luck!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I really didn't think I would be saying this anytime soon because I am so focused on AP now but I would go with the Rolex if I were you. Only because you already have three top-notch APs already.

Totally agreed with Patton250. Although I love the Diver, but diversity in your collection is not a bad idea!!

I vote D-Blue as well on this one. I loved the white Diver when I had it, but some variety would probably be a good thing.

Being partial to the Offshore over the Diver I'd also vote DeepSea. My ROO has the steel band (OEM rubber with deployment incoming) and a few weeks ago I tried on a DSSD, it was leagues more comfortable on the wrist.
I actually wouldn't mind having a James Cameron to add to the rotation. |

I know it's mostly the angle, but man that bracelet looks so ridiculously small compared to that case! I know it's already a common complaint, but that picture doesn't help.
With that said I've been lusting over he D-blue for a long time. I end up taking the AP route and have more or less been very happy with my decision. But, since you already have 2 ROs I would go for the d-blue! |

I mean you have two Roo already.
Rolex never makes a tribute to a man or an event, this makes the D-blue special. Moreover, it is a testament to man's insatiable thirst for exploration and curiosity. It is the engine the propels mankind. The symbolic meaning behind the watch should make this an easy choice. And yes it's my favourite watch so of course I am biased. |

Thanks for the input guys! Looks like the D Blue is the choice up to this point. I'm on a list at a couple of the local AD's to call me when one comes in for me to try.

I don't know if this helps, but I saw it on Display at Baron and Leed at South Coast Plaza yesterday night.

I'm not a big fan of the Rolex. That model to me, has too be a case head for such a small bracelet and I don't think it would be comfy. What about a regular sub of the gmt ii or dark knight. If AP, I use my 15719 daily but you could try a ro or roc to switch that up.
Thanks, Everett AP 15710 Diver Sent from my iPhone |

The DS is very comfy and I would urge the OP to get that. I'm getting a Cameron DS and it was that or an AP diver and I opted for the Rolex.

Stopped by the AD at South Coast Sunday. Not a good experience there either. DSSD D-Blue was sold. Young lady offered me to try on the regular DSSD. She asked if I wanted to buy it. I told her I really like the D-Blue. Asked when they had another D-Blue coming in and she said she doesn't know. Asked if I needed to go on a list and she said it's first come first serve. She didn't even bother to ask if I wanted to be called when one came in. I just don't get it. I was very polite from the start like I usually am when visiting watch stores, any store for that matter. Do I need to wear a Rolex to a Rolex store to get treated like a real customer? It's not like I walked in there wearing a $50 dollar Timex...
After trying on the DSSD for the 2nd time, I noticed how tapered the bracelet gets. I think I read that on TRF before. Not too thrilled with that as the watch itself is pretty big. I'm very turned off by my recent experiences at Rolex AD's.. I sensed a level of snobbery from salespeople that I haven't experienced at any other AD or Boutique. Is it because EVERYBODY walks into these Rolex stores as they go by to browse and not buy? I think I'm leaning back towards an AP Diver at this point. Much better experiences at AP AD's and Boutiques. Last time I was at the Beverly Hills boutique, the sales lady spent almost 45 minutes showing me different pieces and talking watches. |

White diver with a grey rubberstrap would be my choice.

I had both, I only kept one, I thought having two SS divers in my collection was a it much as many of my other pieces are sport pieces. I kept the DSSD. Though, I am liking the FC diver or Ceramic diver as of late, and there is enough of a visual appearance to keep the DSSD.

Go with the white Diver. I wouldn't worry about having another ROO beside your 44 mm FC and RG. I don't think it would be a duplication at all.

Im very happy with the DSSD, I like it even better with the rubber strap. I know the Diver is a very good option but I wouldnt go with it if I had those 44's. Hope I helped and good luck making that decision

My DSSD was my daily beater before I got my AP SS Diver. Once I got the AP the DSSD started collecting dust in the watch box. I'll pull it out every month or so for a few hours of wrist time but I just don't enjoy wearing it as much as my APs. It's comfortable enough but the bracelet is tapered too much for the size of the watch. It doesn't fit as well as APs do. I would lean towers the SS diver on bracelet over the DSSD.
I really need to get better at taking pics |
