considering a AP... Opinions for those experienced

OK ive come across a AP ROO Volcano 2010....
Now ive been on the look for a AP for a while and the volcano is def not my first choice i have found one for what i think to be a good price ($8500usd)

Ive got 3 rolexs, omega and a panerai so i want to step it up... my concern is what is the resale on them if i choose that its not for me? and is there anything that i should look out for specifically?

I can see what guys are asking for them on Chrono 24 but i take alot of that with a grain of salt, like anything what people ask and what they get are usually two different things and just because thats what they are asking doesnt mean they are worth it.

I have bought watches previously and paid a premium and then decided that im over it and lost a bucket load of money because the market has fallen out on them(Breitling ,Uboat,Oris etc...)

Opinions??
pic for reference

$8500 sounds too good to be true. Please do all your due diligence. Buy the seller not the watch or price. All the best.

Look bro, the logic is simple, a lot of watch sellers on chrono24 are in the money laundering business. They buy from distributors in cash and sell it at a discount price, so their books look legit. They want volumn and high turnover. They are not trying to make money from the watch, they are trying to wash their money clean. That's my experience and what I know from some shady characters.

I for one would not buy it. Who knows what crime one would be supporting by doing so? Human trafficking? Drug smuggling? Prostitution?

I'm not familiar with that site, but that seems to be about ~50% of what a ROO normally goes for. As the saying goes, if it seems too good to be true...

its here in Malaysia and i would only do a face to face transaction.... no way in hell im buying a watch of this value without physically checking it out first, the guy seems honest enough and is need of cash to keep his business going.... so its a desperation sale by the sounds of it... but as with anything too good to be true im the biggest skeptic on 2 legs!

i'd hate to miss out on it if it is actually legit

If it smells like a duck...

Have it checked out professionally.

Also, 8500 or whatever the cost, do you like this color? It is a little polarizing.

My heart dropped when I read the price. A ROO that's not very common and in good shape should go for 15k minimum. If that sale is legit - you could afford to fly to the store, stay for a few nights - buy the watch - come home - sell it and pocket 500-1k USD.

The Volcano is an acquired taste, so you need to love it or its a bust.

Also, tread carefully..the price appears to be very low; even for someone that needs quick cash.

that had crossed my mind... wondering how easy it is to make a franken-AP

id be horrified to find they swapped out the guts with a 7750 or something like that.... in saying that if you were scamming someone for swapping out the internals you'd just try for full price you'd think?

it def got my curiosity but its going to take some time invested, he lives 1.5 hours away.

there seems to be alot of desperate people selling stuff here due to the decline in the local $$
i just picked up a Omega planet Ocean for $2100 usd complete with box, cards etc... due to the guy being desperate for cash and most of the locals not having much for luxury goods

2100 for PO is not desperate, it is pretty common price. I would not pay more than 2k w/ bracelet and 1,8 strap. Japanese wholesale sellers sell these all day long for these prices.

8500 for AP is completely unheard of. He could sell it for 10-12 for TRF sellers right now.

There is no such thing as a desperate luxury watch seller. There is always a buyer for these brands.

He could get $13K on a bad day for that watch, why would he sell it for $8500? No one that buys a watch like that would be ignorant to its resale value. It's a highly-niche luxury product, so you have to assume you're getting scammed, and it doesn't seem like you're taking anyone's advice here.

That's a bit of assumptive statement... And yes the advice is being taken, I'm far from stupid and in no way shape or form would I part with the money until I was 100% assured by a AD or specialist.

I've worked all over Asia and the demographic is quite different here to North America ( and I do know what it's like there as I lived in Canada for 11 years)

You have the wealthy and lower middle class and poor.
Wealthy here wouldn't buy second hand because they are loaded and have brand new bentleys for weekdays and rolls royces for weekends . Very few upper middle class here and a lot of lower middle class.
And like most Asian countries with the amount of scams going around it makes it hard unless you are a recognised dealer to sell offshore.
One of the watch shops I frequent buys alot if his watches from auctions in Japan and Hong Kong
So desperation sales on the local classifieds happen here quite a bit
$2100 for a PO chronograph with box, cards and original receipt is an unheard of price in these regions (cheapest is about $3600usd)

Anyhow the advice is appreciated and if I get the time I will go check it out as its got my curiosity more then anything to see if it is actually legit... There is no expectations and I've been Woking in these parts long enough to not get scammed by the locals

I find that the two places with the cheapest watches on Chrono24 is Russia and Taiwan. Some of these guys are trusted dealers and have been for quite a few years. The most likely scenario is small time money laundering, buying expensive goods with dirty money and selling it for half price to wash the money clean. They need quick turnover, which is why these watches are so cheap. This is my educated guess, but then again it could be a scam, but my bet is on it being a money laundering operation

Main thing is that buying expensive watches at retail or even through a large distributor, cash is always welcomed. Once you have a business front, whatever comes in becomes washed and clean money.

If you have an option to go to an AD or Service Center for verification then you should consider it provided the bright orange colour does it for you.

I would avoid. The ROOs are often frankened with real parts so as to be untellable without opening up. The price as everyone says is pointing to a scam, probably a bait and switch. Maybe it's even stolen. Just too many red flags.

I have had a few good deals in the past, with people (generally not WIS), that buy a watch for 'status', then realise no one actually gives a ... and then want to sell it when they need the cash for something else. If the deal is legit, then buy it for sure. I would! Enjoy it and if it doesn't grow on you, you can sell it to me :o)))

Not sure what you're really after here...you posted asking for opinions. Many have told you to be very careful (actually, to outright walk away) and you keep insisting it's legit. If you're convinced it's fine then what advice are you seeking?

Just my $.02, but you seem to be insisting that the advice everyone is giving you is wrong. If that's the case, you should do what you feel is best. And I hope for your sake you're not getting scammed. Good luck!
