15400 blue vs 15202?

Hi everyone, so I'm looking into getting my first ap and am just enamoured by the 15400 blue or the jumbo and was hoping for some advice. The watch would be my new daily wearer and I was wondering which would you choose and why? Which would be sturdier and less prone to issues? Thanks in advance for any and all help! It's greatly appreciated!

The perennial debate on this exact quandary is contained within these hallowed pages – you just have to bother looking and using the search function.

Thanks I have looked up a few of the other threads as well, have been doing quite a bit of research as it'll be my first ap so I figured no harm in bringing it up. Better safe then sorry as they say!

Huge fan of the Jumbo and most comfortable watch I own. There is just something truly special about it so easy choice for me. I would suggest trying both on and you will know rather quickly. Best of luck with your decision.

Thanks for the advice! Will definitely be trying both on before purchase, unfortunately they don't have a boutique in Toronto so I can't see the 15400 blue in person, but will definitely be trying on a black or white.

The Jumbo is a fantastic watch, but I like having a seconds hand. Fitment is another question, do you want 39mm or 41?

I went with the 15400 as it's a bit more sporty for daily wear, has some modern touches, and also exists in a lower price point.

I also argue that the 15400 is the version most true to the original Royal Oak. The Royal Oak is intended to wear large (hence, Jumbo), and the 15400 keeps those dynamics alive at 41 mm. Both fantastic choices, and there are no wrong decisions!

Surely you joke

Had a 15400 and its a great piece. Traded it after picking up a 5711 as it felt a bit cumbersome. If I went back I think I would go 15202 but I can't say for sure as I really do like the seconds hand. Only one thing is certain, I need another Royal oak

There's quite a bit of difference between the two - size, hands, date-set, ancestry, plus the shade of blue on the dials, so it comes down to which suits you most.

For me personally, I find having the seconds hand a bit more practical. I'm interested in getting my first AP as well. I'll try on the 15400 when I have a chance, but i'm not in a rush, because i'll just end up buying now if it fits well. What others are saying is also consider a 15300, if you feel the 15400 is too big on your wrist.

Jumbo. I've owned both in blue and the Jumbo has stayed.

I think the 15202 is nice due to the history and the movement is gorgeous. Realistically, I prefer the size and feel of the 15400. The 15202 felt a bit lighter and more fragile to me.

Does it just feel more fragile due to the thinner dimension? Is it actually more fragile or just feels it?

Its anything but fragile. As robust as the 15400. Just thinner. I had the 15400, loved it. Did not love the proportions and I have a 7 3/4 wrist. Its 41mm but wears like 43mm.

I would go Jumbo next time for the sizing reason alone...

Had the 15202 and now have the black 15400. Appreciate the 15202 for the history but I prefer the 15400 more for an everyday piece.

Either way good luck!

Having owned the 15400 I would honestly say that if I could do it over again I would probably go Jumbo.........

Much prefer the seconds hand, went with the 15300 and couldn't be happier.

Well both are not easy to find.

The Jumbo is a classic, Gérald Genta at his very best (comparable to Nautlius IMHO) it's sleek, thin and sits very comfortably on ones wrist.

The 15400 is one of my Grail watches, I prefer a "bigger" watch because I am a big guy with a big wrist. I went with the 26320 because of that, and also because of the great discount I managed to get vis a vis a MSRP 15400 from the boutique shop.

Both are masterpieces, but you have to consider whether you want a 39mm or a 41mm, and the 41mm pretty much sits on your wrist like a 42mm, so if you prefer more classical styling go with the 15202, if you want a more contemporary take on a classic go with a 15400.

My understanding is the blue dial 15400 is a botique only piece, so it's probably hard to come by. I own the Jumbo. I actually prefer the no second hand dial. The only two things I dislike about the Jumbo are #1 it's not a Nautilus & #2 it's a pain to manually wind. If I had it to do all over, I'd probably have gone with a PP 5711 instead.

saw both, the 15400 did nothing to me, the Jumbo did, it's proportions are so much better IMO than the other...

You have to try them on, quite different on the wrist between a thin 15202 39mm watch and a thicker 15400 at 41mm. For me, neither fit right so I'm on the hunt for a 15300 or 5711 if I can ever find one of either to try on.
