Rolex Explorer II 216570 or DateJust II 116333
Going back and forth about this and would like some more input, pros and cons to both or one over the other…future resale, what holds value better.

Given what you will pay BNIB, the 216570 will hold a better value versus the 116333. My guess, off the top of my head, is:
BNIB 216570 $6,500 Sell $5,800 BNIB 116333 $9,200 Sell $7,500 Sports models and stainless steel are generally regarded as better in resale value. The kings are the Daytona & Submariner. Your 2 selections really serve 2 purposes. Both are beautiful but have different wearability. The 116333 will stand out and is the epitome of a Rolex with its cyclops and fluted bezel. The 216570 is a rugged, large, go anywhere do (almost) anything watch. |

I have the 216570 and I find that I don't wear it as much as I would like to and will wear it on weekends here and there and always to family gatherings. I own a screen printing and embroidery business and use my g-shocks as my every day go to watch most of the time or nike fuel band. I thought perhaps since I am using my 216570 more as "MY" dress watch/fancy watch maybe it would be good to sell it and get me the 116333 since its is a more dressy watch...

I would add my vote, but I own both of these exact models and love them both.

As you have the 216570 already I would suggest keeping it, is there a reason why you won't wear it more often as your every day go to watch?

The biggest reason is that I have a workshop on the side of my home that I built for my business and I am also the only person employee as well. So I when I am screen printing and It gets messy sometimes and I am around lots of chemicals and don't watt to worry about messing it up. I know there are a log of people that would think I am crazy but, I just don't see the point wearing such a watch when I work by myself in the environment I am working in. When I go to client meetings I will always wear it and dress up.

Got you, understand where you come from - in that case if I were you I would go with the DJ as you are not wearing the Polar often enough, good luck with the decision 👍 |

One is under the radar.
One is flashy. One is a sport watch. One is a dress watch. If you after a sport model, the Explorer. If not, the DJ. Forget about the valueS

They are both very nice watches but as a daily wearer the Exp 2 has the edge, at least for me.

I prefer the Explorer II Polar. A great wearing watch which can be had either new or pre-owned for a very fair price. The watch also wears great. I have owned several Date Just II's and they are also fine watches but just not as strong as the Explorer II in my opinion.

I have them both and I wear them both, but the Explorer gets more wrist time as I dress more casually now that I'm retired. As far as resale, if you buy them both new, you will take a hit-maybe a bit more on the DJ. The SS sport models do better in the secondary market.

Mt favorite Rolex watches are Explorer-II's so I'm the wrong guy to ask....I own both Black & White Dial examples of the 216570.
However, if you chose a smooth bezel and blue dial on the DJ, that would look really nice.....dressier for sure, but nice. |

On this forum, the sports model is king, and the TT doesn't get much love, so you don't even need a poll...it's going to be a slam dunk.
Having said that, it all boils down to what you like and what functions you need...for me, the EXP2 is the more useful watch fitting into more situations that I might find myself in. You? |

EXP2 all the way in my book as I don't like TT's much, its also comparing a sport watch to more of a dress watch, so a bit apples and oranges that way also.

Thanks again for everyone responding. I had an idea that the explorer would lopside the date just..Both are very nice watches and serve a purpose. Since this will be my only expensive watch at this time I have to go with what makes sense and go from there. In the future I will add to the collection.
Cheers! |

Explorer 2 by a long shot . The fluted bezel and gold is too much.

At the end of the day it will be your watch. Try both on and see what you picture in your ind to be the most practical for all your needs. At the end of the day its a Rolex it holds its value not all of them have to be the best in value. BTW always remember you make money when you buy it not sell it.
