AP royal Oak Offshore 37 mm Quartz - Serena Williams

I was just watching the doubles match @ Wimbledon of the Williams sisters vs Babos / Shedova

Now I was also watching Serena single matches earlier and each time I noticed something but not clearly what was wrong with here AP watch

Until today . . .

Apparently she has a special made version.

Check the pics of the 37 mm AP Royal Oak Offshore and the one she is wearing

Do you see the difference ?

Noticed it before...the crown is on the other side. I assume this is because she wears the watch on her left wrist and doesn't want the crown digging into her wrist while playing.

Has to have a reason like that

But from all the watches I own I never had a problem of the crown bothering me

How many have you worn on your dominant hand playing in a world class tennis match?

Other sports - we can't talk about here on TRF - I do professionally . . . . but not tennis

Although my little daugther aims to play tennis professionally

And I am trying to realise her dream but finally she has to make it !

Anyway I checked a lot of other female tennis players

Let's stay at Rolex and have a look of Justin Henin

Was always sponsored by Rolex wearing a 29 mm TT Yacht Master

Left wrist and crown on the right

wondering...why would anyone even need to be wearing a watch while playing a championship tennis match?

Well let me tell you that I would be really happy if Serena wires me each year the check and watches she receives as sponsorship from AP !

Actually she wears watch on left wrist same as Justine Henin and both are right handed. Not sure in your capture but every pic I find on Internet shows her wearing regular 37mm Quartz not special one with crown on inside. Your photo got me thinking as that would make little sense unless she wore on her right wrist. Personally I would not wear a watch playing tennis at that level but to each his own. Yes of course the sponsorship doesn't hurt and I'd be happy to be a corporate/office athlete for them if they want to sponsor me.

If AP made a special model for Serena with the crown on the left, that's cool.

Even though she's right handed, with a 2-handed backhand, a watch on the left can be problematic.
I also have a 2-handed backhand and don't wear a watch. Some of my friends with 1-handed backhands wear watches (on the non-dominant hand).

Earlier, it seemed she wore a bandage to protect the back of her hand/wrist from the crown on the right of the case. Those heavy PM cases may flop/move around a bit.

The pic I shot was of the double match

I am just watching Kerber and Williams finishing Wimbledon and Venus still wears it at her left wrist - crown at the left side . . .

Serena rocks man! I am happy she won her 22nd. Wonder how many more she'll get.

Unfortunately Roger couldn't do it. Hard to understand what happened on that 4th set.

A couple more guys are wearing RM (Zverev and Berdych)... And Stan the Man has a nice AP collection ...

PS, I always wear a watch when I play (2/3 a week). It's a Garmin but I get anxious if I don't. I have a one hander though.

Congrats to Serena!

AP must be happy with Serena winning Wimbledon and Willett winning the Masters. Too bad for AP Lebron wore a Rolex to the parade. Can anyone confirm if he is still an ambassador?

I wonder how much that watch cost to make and if she has to return it once her sponsorship is finished.

Pretty sure she doesn't have to return it at all

But would be a nice present for Mrs !

Only thing that bother me is that it is a Quartz . . . .

Pretty cool and interesting. They made her a special one off. I see she has a bunch of AP's including 15400OR and 44 ROO Carbon.

I was one of the die hard fans of Justin Henin when she was playing

Kim Clijsters was close but Justin was the pitbull

Mentally Justin was far above Kim

And now Serena is still # 1 !

Really great for someone coming from Compton

I really have respect for people who get this far in life 🖒

I find tennis very boring since the end of the 80's, basically when Mac Enroe stopped playing, that was a really interesting way to play, now they all play from the end of the court and hit like crazy, the old players used to go to the net every 2-3 balls, much nicer IMO...

Because she is contractually forbidden from looking at the Rolex clock and scoreboard.

I wouldn't say it is boring but players used to have a lot more personality back then... Mac, Connors, Borg, Vilas, Rafter, Ivanisevic, Agassi...

It's a little too sterile and soulless these days... Minus Fed of course!

Yeah, I was listening to Billie Jean King and she was talking about Martina and Chris Evert, who both have 18 titles, and if they were in different eras they would have many more, possibly over 30.

Luckily . . . no ?

Huge congrats to her, she is an incredible talent. As far as the watch, is it really a one-off made specially for her or is she simply wearing the watch backwards during the match only to prevent the crown from bothering her wrist? It's hard for me to tell from these pictures.
