People looking down on Tudor and "starter rolex models"

I just want to say that I have seen a couple of comments with people looking down on Tudor and entry level rolex like "I would not wear a Tudor because it would be like I couldnt afford a Rolex". Along this same vein there have been comments about the explorer 1 and no date sub being something you only buy if you cannot afford a sub or date version.

I appreciate the Tudor brand and all Rolex models for different reasons ! I remember last year I had a sub, Daytona, and explorer 1 in my collection and many people told me to get rid of the explorer because it adds nothing, for example. I argued that it added a simple clean watch but many did not think it deserved a place?

Well I guess the purpose of this post is that we should try to stay positive and embrace the diversity in peoples collections and the choices they make. Now here is a picture of my new favorite watch :).

Stay positive :)

Have a great evening,

Josh

Agreed, although I guess I haven't really seen much in that regard in these forums. I think people stay pretty civil around here. FWIW, even though I don't own a Tudor, I currently like more watches in the Tudor lineup than in the Rolex lineup.

I agree.

That said, I don't understand why many popular watch forums push Rolex and Tudor together, you don't see Acura and Honda sharing the same posting space, it could naturally lead to arguments. I'm a hardcore Rolex loyalist, I never considered a Tudor and never would. I don't have anything against those that like the brand, but frankly over at WUS the Black Bay threads do get tiresome to weed through.

I haven't seen any of that. The closest was in the "entry level Rolex" thread, but even then there wasn't much like that. I actually see a ton of support here and guys wearing Platonas congratulating someone on their first OP. Overall I think the Rolex forum is the nicest watch forum around (people wise)

Hello gents. You can call Tudor anything you like, but this beauty below, get me more compliments than my BLNR.

I wore my Heritage chrono Blue today (on the strap, my summer preference) and had two unsolicited comments. One was from an acquaintance who I never pegged as much of a watch guy, who has a well-worn acrylic crystal Sub date. The other was from a guy wearing an Omega Planet Ocean. The only comment I've ever received on my BLNR was from a guy who was also wearing one. Your pic kind of makes me want to put the oyster bracelet back on mine!

I have noticed that, in my honest opinion, if you are buying watches because how much they cost or for their 'status', you aren't a watch enthusiast. If you look down on any watch and judge someone for wearing it (unless it's a fake, bad homage, etc) you're are not welcome in the watch community. Every watch was built for a reason and carry's significant history (explorer 1 after the summit of sir edmund hillary, Tudor's past.., etc). BTW, i love the pelagos! I have a black bay black and im in love. Could I afford a Rolex sub instead? yes.. did i want this one more? yes :)

Tudor is really good brand and Tudor watches are very nice. Especially if you need a "daily beater" or are involved in physical activities (e.g. I would not go for some trips to countryside where physical activities involved with PM or TT Rolex watch).

Yes, Explorer I can be considered as "entry level" Rolex, some people like it so not. Everything depends on subjective preferences. For example, I do not like Explorer I but Explorer II (polar) is exceptionally nice watch.

Milgauss is a very unique Rolex and I guess you like it or hate it. I like it very much, but I like Daytona more :) So that's why my 2nd Rolex will be Daytona-C or TT Daytona.

Explorer 1, especially the newer update (and the vintage variants) is a darn good watch!

Let people say what they want. Being bothered by comments like that only prove them right. Wear in good health.

Yup. I honestly just don't understand why people care at all what anyone else thinks about their material purchases. Along the same lines, I find it baffling that there are so many "which one should I get" threads. Get what YOU want.

Maybe I don't read the threads completely enough but I don't recall anyone in here demeaning someone for buying a Tudor. That would seem very out of place for this forum... It amazes me in a good way how complimentary people are in here. How many days do 3 or 4 people post an incoming Sub? Every post is full of congrats and never a sarcastic comment about "how original" or some such thing. So cheers to us! finding that anywhere in life is rare, especially on an Internet forum.

I haven't seen any of that here. Tudor is a great brand. My only issue is the non in house movement that many have but that's not exclusive to Tudor. Wear what you enjoy. Who cares what others think?

Think about cars - Mercs. Usually you get into Mercs through C or E class. Smaller, Cheaper and less complicated models. Nobody buys a S as the first car. So entry level Rolexes follow the same logic.
Tudors are another brand from my point of view. They have their own merits and downside also. My 2 cents worth.

I don't think of cars in those terms, either. An S class is too big for me, whether I can afford it or not, so I'd still choose a smaller Mercedes. I used to drive an ML350, and it wasn't as if I chose it over the GL350 because of price. I wanted the smaller footprint, and I almost wished I'd gone with the even smaller GLK.

Some people buy up the model line of cars/watches because of status, and others buy what suits their needs. I'd personally take a Sub over a DayDate, regardless of cost.

Just to be clear, the vast majority of posts here are supportive and positive, this is an excellent forum and a great community. I just meant this to be a little reminder that we should try to stay positive even tho sometimes we forget :)

I read a lot of the posts here, and I haven't seen anything like what you are describing. Can you link to them?

Absolutely. That's my point. Many of us buy what we need or want, regardless of where the model sits in the price hierarchy.
