Are your watches always clean? Is there something wrong with me?

I know the average person doesn't care, but most of us here aren't average in our loves for watches.

I've seen beat up, oily, and watches that have probably never been washed.

Had an experience the other day, and I started to question myself.

Went to the Omega boutique here in NYC to check out some straps. On a side note, the boutique staff is always amazing and I've never had a bad experience with them.

Took off my watch and handed it to the woman in the service area upstairs. They enter serials to get a full list of compatible parts.

She immediately asked if I had just gotten it.

I told her no, it was about a year old. She asked if I wore it much. I told her about 4 days a week.

"Really?" Was her response. She said she had never seen someone come in with a watch as clean. Especially one that was worn regularly.

I don't wash it every day, but I do wipe it down with a microfiber cloth before I put it on and when I take it off. I'm extremely wrist aware so I don't get that many scratches, and I admit to having some cloths in my desk at work.

No my watches are my tools. I just wear and enjoy. I don't concern myself with scratches or anything. But i do take care of them though. I lay them down nicely when i take them off. I rinse with warm water after i go in the ocean or pool with them, ect.

My Submariner I like to keep pretty clean. I keep cloths in my glovebox and have some in my closet at home. But Gshocks I let them get dirty and stay that way. So it just depends on the watch.

I've had more than a couple comments on mine. While shopping for Holly's diamond last year the owner at my AD and I handed each other our watches for "inspection", his was a yellow gold DD with Romans and white dial! He couldn't believe that my Sub was a daily wearer. I try to take care of my things, scratches happen but that doesn't mean that I don't take good care of things. WIS and anal about watches should be synonymous.

I bought a Rolex polishing cloth and it sits on my nightstand. I wipe the watch down before wearing it and then after.

What are you gentlemen using to wash the watch? The other day I took a dab of dish soap and just suds the watch up under the faucet.

Many swear by Veraet products here, check them out for all kinds of watch care products.
Here's their link.

If you want the bracelet to last for many years and prevent "stretch" aka wear, keep it clean on a regular basis just like you keep yourself clean. Would you go for more than a day without showering? Not me!

I'm not very wrist aware and only wash them when they are visibly dirty. The exception is when I go in the ocean or the pool. I do ultrasound the bracelet a couple time a year to avoid excessive wear. If I sell the Rolex, you'll know it was not polished. ;)
Works for me. That's why I picked a Rolex and not a Patek.

I have some gold and jewelry cleaner I use for
my sub and GMT !
I rinse them off first in mild to warm water .
Then wash with cleaner or mild soap if I'm not
home but traveling . Then dry off with soft clean
cotton or a clean microfiber cloth .
I stopped wiping then down without washing
first because that's how you get fine scratches
and swirls ...

Excellent advice, wiping a dry cloth on a dirty dry watch is akin to waxing your car without washing it first, not a good way to stop scratches.

i clean the watch I was wearing for the day before going to bed. Once in while I'll notice a smudge while stopped at a traffic light and wipe it with a cloth I have in all my cars. I think we are all a little watch crazy.

I wash my watches when they go into the safe or safe deposit box.
