Goals revisited
Alright guys, a while ago I made a thread about a list of goals that you may have. I thought that it was time to do a check in, and to see if you have any new goals to add to the list!
My goals are constantly evolving, so here are my goals now, and how I'm doing so far. 1) School - I've decided that I need to focus on my math rather than courses that I would find easier (and, unfortunately, more interesting ) and will revisit all of the psychology and social science courses next year instead. It's not exactly what I had planned, but flexibility is a must at this point in my life! 2) Body - I went to my weigh in yesterday and found that I am just under twelve pounds away from my ultimate weight goal. After I reach that magic number, my goal will change to maintaining that weight (or really damn close to it) for the next year. I also really want to tone more as well. Also, as a reward to myself (or a cruel punishment, depending on how it goes ) I plan on going to a modeling agency that I have heard very good things about, and who focus on a healthy body (or so they claim, we'll see!) I obviously don't think that anything could result from it, but since I was approached by a modeling scout on the bus last week, I figure I might as well give it a shot. Why not??? 3) Mind - I am continuing to work on bringing up my self esteem and trying to work through issues that both have been brought up in this forum and others that haven't. I know that I will always have these issues with me, I just want to work on managing them and not let them have the massive effect that they are having on me. This will by far be the hardest of my goals, I hope that I can do it! 4) Family and Friends - I do not have the greatest relationship with my younger sister, so one of my goals is to develop a better one with her. Both being teenage girls, obviously we will clash at times, but I know that it's important to my mom that we become more like sisters with one another, so I will overlook any personal vendettas so that I can make my mom happy. As for Aadil, my goal for this year with him will be to give him patience and understanding, because he will have a lot on his plate with being a team manager at a big company in the city, as well as attending school for his MBA. We won't be able to spend a lot of time with each other while we're in school, and although it will be hard, I know that we can get through it, and it will be worth it in the end! (It's been over three years of the same thing, so we're well trained in getting through tough school years! ) My goal for my friends is to spend more time with them, because with how busy everything is, my spare time is going to Aadil. When he's back in school though, I'll have more time to spend with them, so I have that to look forward to That's all for now, so I would love to hear where you all are with your goals, and if you have any new ones, or any evolved ones from last time. Please share!! Ashley |

Glad that everything goes as planned for you Ashley keep up the great work
Here are my goals for this year : School - I am just one year away from my bachelors degree and this year is going to be quite a challenge as i will have to study hard in order to have a good mark and continued my studies for an MBA degree. I have lots of patience and i know with my precised planning skills everything will go smoothly and i will get my bachelors degree with a good mark Body - I lost 19 kilos last year i dont how much is that in pounds and as a result i spent my whole winter and summer working out to tone my body and muscles. So far i have done amazing work and i am really pleased with the results but still i have not reached my goal so i will continue working out and having a healthy life. Always remember that if you want to have a nicely shaped and toned body 75% of the whole procedure is what you eat and 25% of the procedure is the work out process at the gym. Also when you are working out and you are on a diet at the same time your metabolism becomes more stable and this helps a lot as you will not gain weight fast if you ever stop going to the gym. Mind - I had some problems this year but everything is much better now and things are going well. Family friends - I don't have a good relationship with my father but i am not planning on having a good relationship at all . I am going to lose most of my friends again as they are studying in a different university so this winter is going to be lonely. Hope that things will work out with a girl that i met but time will tell Well that's all that i have to say so far

Here are my goals:
School: I have eight years post high school education. I was educated beyond my intelligence after kindergarten so I am through. I am a guest lecturer for the Statewide Conference of Addictive Diseases in September. I am involved in Rotary, I am serving as a chairperson for a Human Services Collaborative Body for the second two year term, I serve in many coalitions to reduce underage drinking, I serve on an Opiate Replacement Task Force, I serve on an area Transportation Committee, a committee to reduce poverty, a committee to prevent suicides, etc. I also serve in a group to represent member concerns through lobbying at the legislative level. Actually, I would love to start a second career in computers, which I am very skilled at; or watchmaking in which I have the patience of Job and the maturity to excel. Body: I am not too shabby looking for a 52 year old fart. I am five pounds off of my ideal body weight. I weigh 182 pounds and feel my best at about 177 pounds. I have bicycled almost 1,400 miles for the season so far, mow my lawn every four days (4 mile walk), walk almost five miles at lunch time near daily, and work out at the gym when I cannot do the other things. Especially when I am on the road for business trips. Mind: I read all of the time. Books for entertainment, books for knowledge, magazines; Traverse City magazine, Bicycling magazine, Men's Journal magazine, IWC Watch magazine, Watch Time magazine, etc. I also read many things on the internet as well as posting on two forums. The Rolex Forums (Which is my favorite), and www.adrsupport.org which is a support group for people with spinal issues. I receive calls from people all over the United States and the World to help out with spinal issues. I had 4-level disc replacement in Germany almost two years ago. Family/Friends: I have a few really close friends that I spend a lot of time with. Some are bicycling buddies, some are friends that have been through hell and back like me, some are friends that I am in the same career with, some are friends that are in the forums that I have helped or that have helped me. I am working to have healing with my sisters who were equally damaged in our family of origin. We have all been lost and, have struggled to find ourselves and, to have a life in spite of the abuse. And a goal that I would love to achieve is to be able to retire early before the system uses me up. I am so sick of the bureaucratic crap some times that I could just puke. They always come up with ways to not have to pay us for services. The Bush administration needed to fund the war so they came up with the Federal Deficit Reduction Act. This is where they hire Medicaid auditors to go throughout the State to look for fraud and abuse. They seldom find fraud but, they find mistakes. They use the mistakes as reasons to take away tons of money, thereby closing down good programs as, they cannot afford to financially take the hit. All the while the lawmakers vote themselves the best benefit packages and raises in the Nation. Gotta love this system. So there are my goals and my rant. You got both to contend with. Terry Newton

Sorry Lisa:
I usually write like a mad man when I am angry. It helps to let off some steam. I had just found out that day that I was losing almost $17,000 in billings due to some new anti-terrorism State Law requiring poor people to show a birth certificate to get public assistance. It's just another way to deny payment as they know most of these guys cannot come up with this document. For $40.00 a piece I can pay to see if we can track down a birth certificate for them. I just hate bureaucracies. Terry Newton

My biggest goal obviously is getting this baby out of me healthy and happy!
Family; I need to develop a better relationship with my MIL and give her the benefit of the doubt... I really really really want to succeed in raising my child 3-lingual + sign-language, which I still have to work on myself! I want to focus on quality time with my husband, especially after our baby is born, because I don't want to loose that special relationship we have. Work; I need to chill out a little and trust on the other people to do my work while I'm on maternity leave! I am terrified right now that the business is going to go down the drain once I'm out for a while, but I guess I'll have to trust on them... (I definately need to work on that!) Body; I'm hoping most of the gain will come off after birth, although I'll probably need to start thinking about a work-out plan afterwards... Mind; I have to relax... Friends; I know my time with them will get diminished after I'm a parent, but I do plan on maintaining those friendships, even if it just takes a few minutes to give them a buzz. Plus of course; I don't want to leave you guys hanging! School; this doesn't apply to myself, but my husband since he's going for his masters, but I do have the goal to keep motivating him and to make sure he has enough time to study and write his papers, even if that means I'll have to change a couple of diapers on the baby myself...

Goals. Last time we visited this topic I wanted to be more goal-oriented. Tried that, so now I think I want to be less goal-oriented and see where that goes.

My goal for this school year is to demonstrate infinite patience towards my children, and also to somehow convey to them the love we hold in our hearts for them as parents. I know this sounds sappy and unobtainable, but hey - I can dream!
And, to decide what I want to do next (ie work, possible coursework, other options).

Great goals Terry and Velitsko, thank you for going into the depth that you did! I wish you good luck in striving to attain them!
I thought of another goal that I have for myself for this coming year. I plan on working about 24 hours a week on top of school, so I plan to take $275 out of each paycheque into a savings plan for school. I plan on having at least $5000 come next September. I also want to start saving money for retirement in some high risk long term mutual funds. If anyone has any advice on those, I would appreciate it! Keep them coming guys! Cheers! |

Good luck with your goals Ashley
My goals are more about my family. Middle and eldest son are in further education, and daughter is starting senior school, so they will need a lot emotional support to keep them focused and happy. Workwise both my job and my wifes are subject to a lot of changes, so we need to be able to adapt and take the positives out of the situation. Both of our jobs involve managing services for adults with learning disabilities. This brings us into contact with many people and a variety of different social situations which give us a broad view of community life. Outside of work will carry on in our support of local community. Wife is a school governor, and organises school reunions. We are both active in school activities through committees. Active members of our church council. We will also play a part in our Street party day, which involves closure of our road so residents can get together and mix for the day. Will also support a number of publicans in our area |

School: Took a full load this summer instead of my usual travels, graduating in a year. MCAT's should be a breeze and I plan on taking them right after graduation. Maybe take a year for work experience, but I think my resume is beefy enough to stand on its own (will check on this later). School is going well. Goal: Grad school
Body: Cut 12 pounds in two months to 155 dryweight, running 6-8 miles a week (3 days), core workout, and light weights. Also just started to play tennis again - I used to play tournament/interclub throughout my life until I graduated high school, but haven't touched rackets in a few years. Man I missed it. Goal: Run more often, build up to 160lbs, and maybe add another clothing style Mind: Same punk as always. Goal: n/a Family/Friends: Settled down with a nice korean girl - previous thing didn't work out. My LA contacts are still good, family is good, just don't know too many faces at this new school (which is probably for the best, more study time). Goal: maintain everything Finances: Since I'm back doing full time classes, no more startup work for me. Doing a lot of private tutoring on the weekends - pays for ammo and other random toys. Goal: Contact previous employers to update them on my graduation plans

Goals...
Mainly writing. Novel...started writing seriously. May even post and excerpt here as a preview. Fairly happy with the way things are going but it is tough. I keep falling into the old screenplay writing tactics of expostition and emotion through dialogue. Screenplays...just entered a daft online contest to rewrite the last part of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith on Aint It Cool News. Hammered out a 19 page screenplay exerpt in less than a day. That sounds ridiculously easy and to be honest it was. Had a quick rewrite but it is surprisingly good for spending such little time on something, they say write about something you love and I'm a badge wearing geek. I'm not even bothered about winning, just wanted to have my say. I'll keep you posted. J |
