Frans, you're gonna love this one...
Hi Frans and all you wonderful guys,
While going through the numismatic (coinage, medallions, etc.) collection at the museum, I suddenly came across this beauty. This is a 40th Anniversary issue (1985) of the famous Operation Manna 1945 food drop of the Allied Forces over Holland. Take a look at this commemorative medallion...it is solid bronze and very beautiful. I managed to get some good pics. Here's a link to the entire history of this famous operation: http://www.lancastermuseum.ca/manna.html This is the obverse (front) of the medallion....note Winston Churchill in the right hand bottom corner and the different food tags! Can you translate what's written around the perimeter of the medallion? ...and the reverse side of the medallion. You can see 3 Allied aircraft dropping food stuff to the Dutch people who are standing in some barn waving at the aircraft. Hope you enjoyed this nostalgia, Frans....it was specially for you, my friend. The medallion itself is a beauty and very, very rare. JJ

Great bit of history, JJ Thanks for sharing it with us
Now, if we could just get the leaders of the world today to remember how much we accomplished back then by just pulling together and working as a team instead of a group of individuals, imagine what we could achieve There's alot to be learned from history, but seems as though the bosses of today don't want to

That's not food being airlifted to the Dutch.... it's accounting books and adding machines.

Thanks JJ, this means a lot to me because I’m into nostalgia like this. The text is extremely difficult, even for me because it’s a kind of Dutch we don’t know anymore. But I managed to do a good translation.
“In remembrance of those who gave wings to The Mountain Lecture”. The word Bergrede was the key, it’s part of the Bible.
