To my knowledge no Submariner had ever been issued with engravings.
The Sea Dwellers, including the DSSD, do.

It takes more than that.
In the early 70's the COMEX prototypes (5514) Subs did have a helium escape valve and back. Some of them are quite valuable. However, the Sea Dweller backs will screw right on the Sub cases, and so you would need to look at both the model number on the side of the case, does it have the He valve, and the model number stamped inside the caseback to learn.
