Icon6 Which DJ watch?!?!?

I am taking a dive and getting my first Rolex. I have tried several on for a couple years now. I have my selection down to three... I think.

1. TT DJ2 with slate dial and green Roman numerals
2. The new TT DJ 41 with Jubilee bracelet and silver dial
3. SS DJ2 with gold fluted bezel, rhodium dial, and purple Arabic numerals

I have a great divers watch as my every day and own other sport watches as well. I also have a dress watch I am quite fond of so the datejust line kind of struck me as the perfect dress up or down watch.

I was pretty stuck on number 1 for the longest until last month I tried all three of these on side by side. Number 3 is a very clean sharp looking watch and I was shocked at how striking the new 41 looked. It made my long thought decision for the slate dial DJ much more difficult.

Knowing they are all great, what do you think about these three? Which would you choose?

I'll be surprised if the vote isn't 90% for number 1! Go for it!

I'd go for the DJ41.

The proportions are more traditional and the jubilee bracelet is better than you can imagine and only gets better with age, to a point, of course.

Welcome to TRF and congrats in advance.

Based on the choices, I would go with choice number 1. Having owned that reference for over five years, I can honestly say the dial combo is one of the best that have ever been made. Don't own it anymore as over time, I felt the watch was just a little too large for my liking. Nonetheless, still an amazing looking reference.

Pictures would help, but from what I've seen and read, I'd go with door #2

I tried on the watches again at an AD. The DJII with the sate dial was definitely my pick. Would never buy from the store I went to as they were so pushy and didn't know much about the watches but that is a different thread.

My wife has a good relationship with the owner of an AD and he gave me a price on the TT DJ2 which was really good. It was a watch he uses as a loaner when other people have their watches in for service however. I did not see it but was comfortable with the price.

Then, after hearing of DavidSW's reputation I contacted him and he had my watch unworn with a factory warranty at a better price. I just pulled the trigger and bought from him. Really excited to see this watch. Super excited I own it!

Assuming his reputation is what it is for a reason, I do not see any reason to ever buy a watch from an AD. I have bought watches everywhere but an AD after thinking about it. Have always saved a good amount also. Happy to get my first Rolex. Will post pics when it arrives on Tuesday.

Option 2 for me. The DJ41 has had its proportions changed and made smaller. In the spirit of a dress watch the case is lower and the bezel shorter. It wears more comfortable and has more modest proportions. I wish the model was reduced to 40mm, never mind can't have everything. Just my opinion the DJ2 is still a great watch.

#1 is really an awesome watch in person. I've tried on two of them and spent a lot of time trying to talk myself out of one. I have a bluesy sub on my list slightly ahead of the DJII but let's just say it's only a matter of time before I pull the trigger on one.

My DJ II is running +5 seconds a week, no need to make your choice based on the "newer" movement.

The new 41 is a superior design and a superior watch so I'd go that way but YMMV.
