Price Check: ref 4498

1940's ref 4498

I have negotiated the seller down from the listed price, but wanted to solicit expert opinions from those who know WAY more than I do. What is a reasonable price point?

Finer Points
- Yes, the dial has been refinished.
- It was serviced in July 2016 and keeps time within 30 sec/day
- I was told the serial # on these early models was on the caseback itself and had a tendancy to wear (note the faded crown logo).

Legit?

Thanks!

Insane price. imho

Not that nice of a movement condition.

You're not gonna "wear" that serial number off that easily. You can...POLISH it off.

I wouldn't pay half that if I wanted one. It's not worth that with an ORIGINAL dial.

I sold a much nicer one 2 years ago on eBay for about a grand usd.

It had a very very nicely refinished dial on it and the dealer who bought it had a crappy redial put on it with all the wrong fonts and crown logo and put it up for sale for a lot more.

I'd gladly post pictures but photo bucket has turned completely to crap and you can't copy links anymore. I suggest a world wide boycott of photo bucket.

Let's all find a new hosting service.

Mine was a 4542 but basically the same idea. Look at how crisp and unpolished that case is!

Tommy is right - absolutely ridiculous price. .. not even 2x, more like an order of magnitude.

Sorry, have to agree with the others. Can't imagine this watch being worth $1500, repainted dial or not.

Excepting the quality of the movement...if it had an original dial it would be in the 2-3 k range...it's kind of a dressed up window watch in this case.
