Watch not winding?

Hello,

I have a Tudor Prince Oysterdate two tone that I am looking to give to my girlfriend. It is a boy sized watch, so I think it is around 32-34mm. The movement is, from what I can see online, an ETA 2824.

When I try to wind the watch, I can hear the distinct winding noise, but no matter how many times I wind it, the seconds hand wont start. The only way to get it going is to start wearing it to 'charge' it up.

Any idea what could be broken based on this information? It keeps good time, so perhaps it could be a quick fix.

The minutes hand is set by rotating the crown counter clockwise, so does that mean I have to wind it counter clockwise as well?

It winds clockwise....

But I expect you have you tried that?

If it holds a power reserve when auto winding then I think you could have a issue with the winding mechanism?

Yup - I wind it clockwise and still nothing.

If you wear it for a day and it runs on the auto winder...how long does it run for when you take it off?

I am between mainspring and winding mech.

I actually don't know - I haven't worn the thing because its so small. I'll try that out and report back!

The winding mechanism on the 2824 is notorious for malfunctioning.
