My 1980 5513 has a later Rolex pearl insert (with the small steel rim).

I have the following questions for you vintage gurus -

1. How easy is it to obtain a period Rolex tritium pearl insert to replace it with? Will I have to pay an exorbitant sum and is it worth it?

2. Alternatively, I have seen period style third party pearl inserts that seem reasonably priced. Should I go for one of these even though it's not a Rolex part ?

My dealer (David Duggan in London) says best to leave it. Its a Rolex pearl and perfectly acceptable. And of course I prefer it to no pearl at all. It looks ok but it bugs me a little so I would like to replace it if possible.

Need to see a photo of what you have - typically a 5513 pearl has not metallic rim, but an all plastic dot

to fit a sapphire pearl (the one with the metal ring) they had to enlarge the original hole ... so now if you put an original pearl would be small ... in my opinion they have irreparably ruined a vintage insert.. I do not like the pearl with a metal ring on a 5513 (or on a vintage sub), I would prefer the hole..
only my 2 cent..
