GF Just Had a Stroke Possibly
I just got a text from my gf where she told me she thinks she had a mild stroke. She was on the train to work, started to have trouble breathing, had to sit, and lost her vision for 40-50 seconds.
She said she is fine now and that she emailed here OBGYN doctor, because she often feels strange the day after starting her active pill. That is the extent of what she has done. I think we need to go to at the bare minimum a physician to have an exam of some sort and possibly an MRI or whatever kind of test you do when something like this happens. And in my opinion it needs to happen immediately. Right? This is brain/nervous system type shit we are probably talking about. Am I over reacting? Losing vision for a minute seems like a big deal. She is ignoring my calls and texts trying to get her to explain more to me. Just like she ignores her health, she is now ignoring me being worried about her health. I basically have been begging her to get a physical for months now. Should I go over to her office and just sit there until she leaves with me? I can't tell what is over reacting in this circumstance. I am on the phone right now with everyone I can think of, no one really knows what to tell me to do. I am trapped here guys. Trapped to the point where posting on here asking for advice is one of the few things I can think of to do, cause I figure there are some smart folks on here, maybe even some doctors? |

She is literally ignoring me. I am basically a block away from her office (in mine). I can't physically drag her out of there...well I can but I don't think that would work.
This is insane. Should I just go over there and sit there until it is so awkward she has to come? |

If it's as bad as you think it is, call an ambulance, and meet them there. Could just save her life.

I'd bring her to the Dr ASAP
Maybe go speak with her boss before causing a scene. More often than not the boss will look out for the well being of the employee.

Call 911 and have an ambulance take her to the ER. They will probably do a CT Scan and MRI.

Had a friend's wife have a stroke that went undiscovered due to malpractice for 2 days. Ended up with a second much worse stroke. So much worse of an outcome than if they were able to treat it immediately. Get to the ER ASAP.

strokes are no joke, my grandma had one when I was at my grandparents' house. She told my grandpa to not call the ambulance, and she was adamant on that. I called anyways. Turned out she had a stroke and time was of the essence (ie: act quick, don't wait)

She needs to get looked at by a medical professional asap. This isn't something she should take lightly. Go and do whatever you need to. Hope everything goes well.

I can't imagine that if she actually contacted a physician of any specialty that that person would not demand that she get medical care ASAP.
Make a personal visit to assess her condition to the best of your ability and then proceed as necessary. I don't think even paramedical staff could cart her off to the hospital without her approval if she is currently asymptomatic. Nonetheless, if she's a block away, go check on her.

Doctor ASAP. It may be a bad migraine, which has similar symptoms. I have had them and first thought I had a stroke. Only a doctor can tell.

Minutes matter when it comes to a stroke. My grandma had one that left her paralyzed, unable to talk, or feed herself. This isn't something to be taken lightly at all.

Both of my paternal grandparents had fatal strokes at the age of 55. My maternal grandmother had a fatal stroke at the age of 59. I am so ultra paranoid about myself. If I passed out and lost my vision, I would be at the ER ASAP.

My Dad had such a "mild stroke" November 2006 and never went to the Doc. He died February 2007 due to a serious stroke at the age of 57...if however possible make her see the Doc.

So best I can do is we are talking to each other on the phone in 15 minutes, because she is in a meeting currently. The irony of me not being able to work (I am an AE at a tech security firm, I can't exactly perform under duress), and her unwillingness to acknowledge this potentially serious health problem now has me resenting her and worried about her.
I talked to my boss and we agreed I can't just go over there and kick the door down demanding she leaves; it would be bad news all around for her job as well as the relationship (I don't care, that can be fixed later, but it is an argument against), and I can't force a conscious person to do anything against their own will anyway. My mom, of all people (she is a psychologist which ads to the objectivity) said women have a tendency to do this. Basically she is so scared of having a health issue it is better in her subconscious mind to just ignore the fact something is wrong than to deal with it. On the flip side she is super health conscious and watches what I eat, how I sleep, how I piss, poop, what have you, like a freaking hawk. Sorry, I am not exactly composed right now. Need to keep it together for when we talk in ten minutes. I am not sure about ER but I am going to insist we go to at least a physician who can refer her to a specialist. Also she was planning to go to a symphony tonight, I am going to guess that is a bad idea (loud noises, rapid light changes) I am no dr, but this seems more like a small seizure than a stroke right? Strokes run in her family though. She also only has one kidney. Not sure how that plays into this. Thanks for the support guys. |

Im actually quite surprised how laid back you guys are. While it may be an anxiety attack or a host of other non life threatening event, time is critical when you're talking about a stroke (or any potentially fatal vascular/neurovascular issue. Waiting for your primary care to refer you to a specialist is nonsensical. You want to confirm or rule out a stroke first. The quickest way to do that is in the emergency department Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I finally got a hold of her and she is on her way to a doctor to get checked out in 30 minutes. I am not going with her, cause she doesn't want me to, and all I care about at this point is keeping her as even keeled as possible. After this episode though, idk if I can keep this up. It has been a year, and stuff like this seems to be happening in a pattern, with this being the worst example. I live my life under her microscope, which is on a work bench in the middle of a freeway |

If your partner is perpetually making you unhappy, regardless of whose fault it is, maybe you should take a break. In my old age I have learned that life is too short to live an unhappy life.

I'll be the contrarian, it could have been just a drop in blood sugar, a small panic attack, etc. It may never happen again, but I'd still see a doctor today.
