New iPhone???
Hi all - I am a huge Blackberry fan - I have been using one since 2002. I love it.
The new iPhone has so many features I think would be useful - including the ease of getting on TRF! Does anybody have any experience with the conversion from Blackberry to iPhone? If you use the iPhone - what do you think? Thanks,

I have used Blackberry, Treo, Tilt and iphone. But I don't have to use it for business. My guess is for business use a Blackberry would be superior with their email function. Treo had a ton of programs, but couldn't quite measure up to Blackberry.
Now to iphone. I bought a used 1st generation iphone from a friend and hacked it with ziphone.org. This way I could put any programs I want on it and I control the data features, not Cingular. The user interface is great and the Safari browser is the best of any PDA. If you have to rely on Edge for data instead of wifi, it is pretty slow. I don't have a 3G iphone, but the 3G service is faster--if you get a good signal. There have been some issues with the new iphone, but I think most people are having a good experience. It is giving Blackberry a good run for the business people but not quite there. For the masses that want basically a slick, mini internet GPS fun device, the iphone can't be beat. For what it's worth.

I currently use a BB, I had an Iphone 1.0 and did not like it. Even now with the Iphone 2.0 I still am not too fond of it even with excellent internet capabilities. The BB is stable stable stable.

I just dumped my Berry for a iPhone last month and I have not looked back yet.
I singed up for an Gmail email account and now I can get email right to my iPhone (does not work with hotmail yet). The only thing that you can not do on the iPhone is PIN Message Blackberry users. The Web works great on it. Eric |

Had a BB though Nextel - I like the iPhone more (we have both versions) though I have to disclose - I'm not huge on mobile email as my job doesn't require it.

A coworker has the newest BB. Don't know the name. She likes it.
I never had a BB. Big Apple fan. Wife and I purchased the Gen 1. I was floored by the features. People complain about ATT but, it's pretty good in Hawaii, way better than my previous carrier: Nextel. EDGE was ok. With recent software upgrades, iPhones can now push. I sold my wife's gen 1. Our children play games (practically trash it--that thing can take a beating!) on my gen 1 iphone. Purchased the 3G and could not be happier. Both our phones have no problems whatsoever. 3G in Hawaii is close to wi-fi speeds. 3G coverage on Oahu is really good. So far I've encountered 1 3G dead spot: On a bridge/valley near where I live. It's a great machine. |

The iPhone looks and feels cool, but I can't stand the touch screen. Blackberry all the way. I currently have a Pearl and waiting on the release of the Bold.

The touch screen is the one thing keeping me from switching from BB to iphone. I tried to draft some e-mails on my sister's iphone a few weeks ago and it took me about five minutes to draft three sentences.

I have had every Treo since 2003, several Blackberries and I spent a short time with the original iPhone. The tragedy is that the best of the bunch, the Treo, is stuck in 2003. They completely failed to modernize it to compete with the Blackberry and iPhone. They stuck with their old Versamail client, never made arrangements with gmail, yahoo, etc, never came up with a music partnership.
I'm moving to the iPhone, probably in the next 2 week. |

Iphone 3G rocks...
I am coming from a Motorola Q9H and while the Q was reliable, the Iphone is just 10x more fun of a gadget. |

The iPhone is a far better camera, music player, cell phone, and web device. The calendar function works well if you can sync it to Microsoft Outlook or similar program. With 3G, the data transfer is much faster than anything I could do on my Treo.

Thank you all for your comments... I think I am going to jump in and give the new iPhone a chance. There are significant benefits to the new device eventhough my BB is used 99 percent for business e-mail so, little dicey. I had the full size keyboard BB and went to the Pearl. That took me a full week to get used to and now I would prefer it. I am hoping that a solid week or so with the iPhone will be enough to help me be successful with the iPhone. I will keep you posted.
My thought it... If, it does not work out with new iPhone - I could always go back to BB. Thank you all for your responses - I trust and appreciate them very much.

Okay all - I took the plunge and switched from BB to iPhone 3G. I bought it late last night so, I don't have the true e-mail feel for it - whether or not I can live with screen typing.
I will say however that all of the other features are very nice. No "Week" view on Calendar - that's odd.... But, all in all - it is a neat device. If I can't type on it I will have to switch back. Maybe keep both. Pretty cool to have access to TRF on the go in a very nice format. Great for video as well...

I was a BlackBerry user for quite a while, and switched over to the iPhone. The iPhone is unparalleled for web browsing - the BlackBerry's browser, or even Opera Mini, is extremely limited, and no other mobile browser comes close to Mobile Safari.
I liked the keys on the BB, but you do get used to the touch-screen on the iPhone. Weighing the pros and cons, and iPhone wins hands down, for me. |

Congrats on the switch. I recently made the switch from the BB to the new 3G. I like the 3G but miss my BB. Currently I have a love/hate relationship with it. The iPhone is nice and very easy to use. Typing is much faster and easier and the Apps are second to none.
The one thing I have found that I don't like is the email. My iPhone might get email and might not? It's been very unreliable. I use .Me GMail and Yahoo. Each morning when I wake up I have to restart the phone before I begin receiving email. So if email is not important I'm sure you will very happy. If your expecting the iPhone to deliver email like the BB you may be disappointed. I'm still trying to decide if i will keep mine or not? I too am waiting on the Bold release before making my final decision. One last note? I'm not impressed with the battery life on the 3G. I can't go a full day without needing to charge the phone. So everywhere i go i end up having to take a charger of some sort. (it's kind of annoying) .. . |
