RG 44 dining at The Ritz
We've had some talk that the 44 ROOs can't easily be worn with a suit so I thought I'd wear my RG to the fanciest of dinners; Puttin' on the Ritz.
It fit just fine under a normal shirt and suit and I completely forgot I was wearing the watch the entire time. However this was part due to the most wonderful dining experience. The dining room is majestic and makes you feel like a prince, but then the glorious food and impeccable and friendly service had me elevated to feeling like a king. I also ordered a dish off the menu, my favourite, and they made it specially for me and even with no supplementary charge. It was a Tournedos Rossini, a filet steak topped with foie gras and black truffles. It happened to be the fave of the sommelier too, word had got around of my special order, and he was so excited to see it he actually brought my dish out and removed the cloche himself to present it to me. I should have offered him a bite but luckily he had drinks to pour elsewhere Other highlights included Turbot in a champagne sauce with oscietra caviar, and a beautifully constructed chocolate and praline cage. The restaurant recently got its first Michelin star and it was very well deserved, an absolutely first class evening and I can recommend it most highly. Just a slight shame the dimmed lighting didn't serve to create good pics. [img] |

The food looks great. Wish that the lighting was better though for clearer pics. Never been to the Ritz before as I heard ( might be not true ) that the place is incredibly stuffy. My favourites in London are the CUT and Dinner by Heston.

We also had langoustines in a delicious bisque and a cloud-light pear soufflé. All was delicious.

It was the Ritz, London. The grandeur is a bit intimidating at first but I've been a few times now and I always find if you have a laugh and joke with the staff they are always happy to laugh with you, case in point when the staff asked how my Tournedos Rossini was I replied, delicious, but I did have one complaint, that the free foie gras they gave me was too small. In the end, I ended up shaking hands with most of the servers, something I normally don't do, but we were all like mates by the end. Probably my fave dining experience ever, the AP was a great good luck charm.

No complains about the watch and suit. I slap this baby on any and every out fit. Rocking the 44RG in camouflage cargo pants with an v-neck, white blazer and black scarf.

Looks wonderful Neil. Such a magnificent setting and really good to know that it isn't 'stuffy' but enjoyable. I found the service is on a different level in a Michelin starred restaurant.

Many thanks, guys. I've eaten at quite a lot of Michelin restaurants now, Le Gavroche, Gordon Ramsay Chelsea and Claridges, Heston's The Fat Duck, Nobu, and have to say the food at the Ritz is now on a par with those, but it has by far the grandest and finest dining room, reminiscent of Versailles, so it's the ultimate dining experience here imho. Hope I get a discount next time after all this.
CUT looks really nice, will check them out, and I'd love to go to NY to Le Bernadin or Per Se, heard great things. |

The Ritz Hotel, Piccadilly must be one of the grandest places to eat in London.
Had afternoon tea with champagne there a couple of months ago, next to the golden King Neptune & his girl friend, as can be seen in the above pics, and it certainly impressed my friends! I did not find the place at all stuffy, the waiters were very friendly and every aspect of the tea was excellent. I doubt it could be equalled anywhere. However, they do have a dress code. i.e. Jacket & tie, no sports gear etc And it's not the place for loud conversation! Discreet, could be the word! Next door, is the Wolseley Restaurant, which is my most favourite restaurant in the whole of London. Reasonable prices, excellent menu/food/wine list. If you like champagne, they sell Pol Roger! My favourite! It can be busy and a bit noisy but it has a nice atmosphere. It's best to book, but they always have a few tables for people who walk in off the street. Have never been turned away, yet! |
