Rolex 116613LB for a 20 year old

I was wondering what people's thoughts were for a 20 year old wearing the 116613lb. Would it be too flashy for someone that young? Would it be okay? Would the 116622 be more suited for someone of that age. Any thoughts are appreciated. ✌️️

If you like it buy it. 116613lb screams 50 year old guy with a cigar to me. But who the hell cares what I think.

Wow you got me pegged! Lol! I love my LB.

I didn't know watches were made for a certain age and lifestyle.

I personally think the 116613 would be too flashy for a 20 year old. All kinds of judgmental thoughts come to mind if I were to see that.

I think a cool Rolex for a 20 year old would be a hand me down DJ or 5 digit Explorer II.

20 years old? I'd go with a Tag and save the rest.

It's definitely not a young look...of the TT line, the GMT master II is a little more hip so to speak and maybe something you should check out if TT is really what you're after. Otherwise, stick with one of the classic SS sport watches and you'll be totally set...or if you REALLY want blue and can spend, go for a smurf.

I'm with those who say he can have it when he can buy it with his own money. Until then, the kind of Rolexes my sons will have are the ones that say Seiko on the dial.

if it were my boy --- ya, um, nope. wearing more than the per capita GDP of a developing nation on his wrist at 20 is just a bit much.

but if you're rich and your kid has a butler and an ex-Mossad body guard on call, sure, why not... gotta keep up appearances i guess.

There is a lot of animosity here about this kind of stuff...if he can have it, be it with his own money or as a gift, what's the issue? As long as there is appreciation, let him have fun!

Personally ? I may get criticized here but ...

When I was 20 I had a look a like
Bluesy Sub made by Daniel Mink cause I
Couldn't afford the real deal then ...
So yeah if you like it , you can buy and afford it ...
then go for it !!!

I was 30 when I got my first 5 digit Blue Sub TT 16613LB.

I have the full gold but at 20 I'd go for the YM blue dial, lovely watch.

I wore a 16613 when I was 20. My Dad told me I was nuts. Much like other post here, not in a bad way, but in a good way...as in you are on your own on this one.
I worked hard and saved up for it. I wore it daily for years.
That was the 80's though and it seems more people wore YG in those days.
If you like it and can afford it, why would you care what others think.

I didn't intend to sound judgmental. The OP asked our thoughts & several had a similar thought to share. I would just go a different way with it, doesn't make anyone right or wrong.

If you are buying this Rolex from money that your earned - go for it as it would symbolize your achievement. However, if you are buying it from your parent's money, then you would give wrong impression to people.

I like people who are trying to reach their own targets, work hard to achieve their goals despite the fact that they come from really rich families. However, rich kids (especcialy Russian, Oriental) who are spending their parent's money on luxury things and despise other people really give wrong impression to society.

If you like the way it looks, that's all that matters. Don't buy or pass on a watch cause you're worried what others may think. 99% of the world won't even notice in reality.

I purchased my first TT Sub at age 23/24 can't exactly remember. I wore it fine but I was a long way away from an average 20 year old.

If it is a gift for a 20 year old then I would say negative on that.

I have 3 sons, my oldest being 30 and it so happens that watches are just not their "thing". A Rolex is not so much a right of passage but a sign to yourself and others that you have reached a certain place in life. A place of respect for ones self or respect others show the recipient. I would suggest thinking about the young man's likes and appreciations in life such as sports, hobbies, interests and buy a watch that compliments his lifestyle. A Tag Heuer, Tissot, Seiko etc. Bulova's Moonwatch homage to the Omega Speed master is a lovely timepiece in the $400.00 range. Ask yourself, is the young man a watch guy or is he new to watches ? What is his appreciation level for watches at all ? If you must go Rolex, I suggest a pre-owned piece perhaps in your AD's case ? Ask their advice as well. I wish you success in your search, there is a lot of passion involved in this seemingly simple question !

Ah forgot to mention that he will be paying it himself, despite being 20, he does have a career in one of the big banks here in Sydney, so I'm very proud of him. He came to me asking for advice as he is a big watch person much like myself, and was interested in the 116613LB because I mentioned to him I was thinking of picking one up myself. I actually suggested he looked at the 116622 in blue or rhodium dial, as I find that that looks much better on someone like him, so I just wanted more opinions on the matter

Sounds like you are looking out for him which is good. I also worked in finance in my early twenties and I had another job after that also made me think I was a Master of the Universe and a gold Rolex or Ferrari can feed into that and make a young ego intolerable so just keep an eye on him and keep him grounded even if he is a banking star. And with that thought, I'd get the Bluesy for yourself as that was your idea, kids hey, they steal everything. Bankers never do, of course.
