Daytona and Submariner Ceramic
Hi – My first post! Having read quite a few posts it seems a friendly forum!
I love Rolex and have had a number over the years (and have just purchased the wife a replacement (SH) datejust for Christmas. I know very little about watches or Rolexes and am finding this site fascinating. I like the way many of you seem to 'flip' your watches regularly. The trouble with that for me is - I nearly always lose money! I presently own a Daytona (which I bought s/h) and really like it, but within 18 months I have put loads of tiny scratches on the bezel and it drives me crazy - so I fancy swapping for a watch with a ceramic bezel. I have my name down for the new model at the AD but they reckon 10 years wait! It probably won’t be anything like that, but who knows. I don’t think I can bring myself to pay the 50%ish premium to jump the que so I am considering a new Submariner. If I shop around are there likely to be ADs in the UK that have them in stock or a short waiting lists? – or do I again need to look at second hand? |

There is still a several month or so wait list for a subC where you are unless you call around and get lucky. I could be wrong but that is my impression from reading the forum. Personally I would enjoy the scratches on the SS daytona bezel as it personalizes my watch. Good luck.

I'm UK based and I think they waiting list for a SubC is exaggerated. If you put your name on enough waiting lists I don't see you waiting any longer than a few months max.
I waited days - friends of mine have waited no more than 3 months. It can be done. |

OP:
Where abouts in the UK are you? The only real hard to get models are the Daytona and D-Blue, the BLNR is popping up a lot more I've been offered a couple recently. As for the Sub's calling around should locate one but might take a bit of drive, or failing that showing interest at a few AD's should see one materialise is a few weeks. |

Someone posted that there was a SS SUB in Mappin&Webb Chester earlier today. Worth a try

Welcome to the forum! Based on what I read it seems much more difficult to source certain models in your area. I generally buy my watches from DavidSW. I think there may be a trusted seller or two here that does ship overseas.
Good luck on the hunt |

They will ship over seas but hell no. Import charges and 20% VAT? Not worth doing it.

As far as subs go, I have seen 2 in last week in London and reading. They are about for sure. Best to ring some AD up and see. Either way, I'd expect you to have one by end of Feb latest....

I bought an SS Daytona white dial and fell out of love with it fast.
I then had a SubC which I liked but just didn't feel special enough. I now have a GMT BLNR which I feel hits the spot beautifully. I've now just bought the new Air-King and they're a great combo. I'd recommend a BLNR over a SubC but that's just personal opinion. The SS Daytona has something special about it and I feel the BLNR is as special. The trouble will be getting one but its that feeling when you get the call and go in and pick it up. Either way (SubC or Blnr), put your name down in a few local places and ring them up every few weeks to see if anything has come in yet. They'll soon get fed up with you and make sure you get the call LOL. Good luck :) |

Thanks all.
I am in Yorkshire but visiting London next week. I will call in at a couple of the local Ads this week and get my name down. Not sure if I prefer the green or black – so I guess I’d be happy with either. I will also have a look at the BLNR because I have not seen one (apart from photos on here) I wouldn't import but have no problem buying s/h from known sources (because otherwise I would be the perfect mug duped into to purchasing a copy!!) |
