What would you start a collection with?
Does anyone own a no date SUBc and a Batman? Is it redundant to have both of these in your collection? Which would you start with? Ultimately I think I'd like to own both but would love TRF opinion. Thank you!

If these are your only 2 options, BLNR first. Sub ND next.

BLNR is a great first watch.

I'll go against the tide. The 114060 would be a fabulous first Rolex. If you have obvious use for the GMT complication the BLNR is excellent as well, but the pure, no nonsense beauty of the Submariner is something to be admired.

Coin flip, as both are great. My choice? Sub first.

I'd start by asking yourself what you mean by a collection and what its purpose is intended to be.
Some people start out randomly buying a watch and then just adding to it with no discernible pattern. Others have a fixation about "graduating" to Patek, Richard Mille and Lange, others a "vertical collection of historic Submariners. In the long run figuring out this kind of stuff now saves you money (!), in the long run... |

BLNR first. Multi-purpose and looks great. It took me to my 3rd Rolex to realize that.

The best way to start is not to go down the superhero nickname road. LV and BLNR will do just fine.

Welcome to the forum.
To answer your question, no, owning both is not redundant. Either would be a fine choice. The Sub is iconic and the BLNR is one of the very best modern Rolex. Personally, I would start with the Sub. Every collection should have one. |

Now it would be the BLNR first, always.
For me it was 2009 and so I bought the GMT IIc LN. Awesome watch. I still love this now, just stunning. Owning both is fine. I am close to adding a 116613LB to mine :)

What would you start a collection with?
First go No date sub.
Then take your time to choose the next one. It may be a blnr... could be a hulk too. You may even never get a next one. But whatever happens you got a pure submariner and thats a "im all set" situation. |

I really like both models. I do not think it is redundant to have both in a collection, even a 2 watch collection.
I am more of a Sub guy so I would start with a 114060. |

IMHO - Unless you have a need for the extra date/gmt complication, I'd go with the original submariner and save the extra ~$3k for something else - like a gently loved Omega Speedy Pro. Then you'll have 2 iconic timepieces in one fell swoop!
But as others have alluded, any of the two you've mentioned would be a fantastic first watch. Good luck, welcome to the foum and enjoy the ride!! |

Definitely the 114060. Quintessential Rolex watch to start all collection.

Depends on what fits your style better, both are great watches. If I was going to get a nd sub I would get a 14060 two liner. I don't like the inflated case of the 114060

My first was the Sub no date, and I just bought it about 6 weeks ago and I love it. Already added a DJII to dress it up a little. I was "bitten" by the bug instantly.

Both are good choices but if you really want variation then there are other watches to choose from.

me too!
I started this odyssey not all that long ago, read an article about the 14060, found one. Understated eloquence! Watches have come and gone around here, but so far, the no date sub has stuck around. And almost half the price of the new ones you're interested in. I like the vintage stuff more. Remember, buy new and if you want out of it, it's hard to get your money back... so you better love it!
