Really, your dentist should be willing to see you if he's in town. Hard to tell from your description. If there is an open cavity, you can look for some over the counter temporary filling material to cover the spot. If you are being awakened at night, this tooth may be abscessing and you will need a prescription for antibiotics. If you have a good relationship with your dentist (have check-ups regularly and follow through with suggested treatment) I can't understand why he wouldn't see you. If you don't have a relationship, well

Ever seen Marathon man? Clove oil is the best pain relief for toothache ever! put some on fingertip and rub into gums as required. Tastes pretty rough but it'll get you to monday.

I'm with you and I feel for you as well. Currently going through an issue with a pinched Sciatic nerve. What they gave me initially wasn't any relief at all. As the weekend arrived and I was awaiting the insurance referral process for a back injection everything went sideways as I ended up in administrative limbo. At least the emergency room gave me an anti-inflammatory injection that seemed to help. Pinched nerves aren't only painful they're pretty mysterious as well. Oh, and you better make sure your ready to spend many a night in the Lazy Boy because you won't be able to sleep much at all in your bed.

I can't believe the process my doctor had to finally use when giving me something stronger. Still not good enough really. But it really appears the govt has really come down prescribing those stronger drugs.

My sciatic nerve pinch was caused by a herniated disc. It finally gave out whilst in SFO and thankfully managed to get back to Nederlands with the help of some oxycodon and a seat in business. I spent 2 hours of that flight lying on the floor in the galley in agony. There then followed a week in hospital to get the pain relief meds sorted ( lots of oxycodon) and a further 6 week wait for the operation to cut away the offending disc filler. The relief was instant on waking up from the op'. I still have a slight limp though from dragging my right leg for 6 months prior.
I hope you get it sorted soon as I'd never want to experience that again.

It sounds like mine has been relatively minor when compared to yours so far. Real glad to hear you finally got relief, that sounds simply aweful. Mine appears to be the result of a narrowing of the opening in the spine where the nerve exit. I just received my first injection a few days ago. The last few days have been the best I have had in over a month. However based on what I was told there is little predictability and no guarantees. All I can hope is the Doctors can get this sorted before it gets too much worse. Just not fun at all.

I have everything you can think of wrong with my back and take 40mg methadone and 60 mg of hydrocodone a day. If I knew what i know now I would never took the first norco.....stay away from opiates if you can. I had two steroid injections.....the first helped me by maybe 30 -35 percent for a month.....the second one did zero and never got another. Good Luck...I feel your pain and have for over 10 years.....there is no pain like back pain!

Real sorry to hear Greg. So we're you able to get any relief from surgery or is this still an issue for you? It's a bit odd but my father in law who is 82 is currently experiencing the same issue. His problems started about a month prior to me and after two injections it looks like he may have to go the surgery route as long as his heart is able to with stand it. He had heart bipass surgery about 17 years ago.

He's currently trying to weed himself off of the drugs now which has given me a bit of a pause. Even though everything they have given me so far and they gave me a bit of a bump is real weak, I'm trying my best not to take anything unless it gets real bad.

I find a doctor who will operate on me.....most say the same thing "surgery may help for a bit but scar tissue will develop and more problems will follow etc"

Sorry to hear, and that may very well be an issue for me as well. I've been crossing my fingers an aweful lot lately.

Good luck Greg.

It depends on the problem I suppose. In my own case it was a classic lower spine herniated disc pushing on the sciatic nerve. The surgeon just cut away the offending piece thereby relieving the squeezing of the nerve. I spent 6 months in the gym strengthening my back again and retraining my right leg to walk properly and within 6 months I was back sports training which involves throwing, being thrown, twisting etc. It's holding up well so far. If you can get it operated on I would definately recommend it. The key to staying well afterward is core strength so plenty of stomach and back strengthening exercise regularly. Your back will let you know when to ease up and you must listen otherwise your recovery will last longer. I have full flexibility again and just a small limp now and again if I get a bit over enthusiastic when training ;)
I did have to wean myself off of the oxycodon and oxycontin but that only took 6 weeks. Good luck to anyone with back problems because its damn miserable.

You need some exotic drink like Ouzo from Greece. 40 odd percent alcohol..just keep it in your mouth for 5. It should ease the pain. if not drink a litre and you shall be fine
Good luck with the pain man. Tooth ache is the worst.
