Omas question
I have two rosewood Omas Milords. One in a light, straw colored finish and the other a dark "noir" finish. On the noir model, the cap band is engraved "W II - 565". On the straw colored version it just says "Italy". I wasn't under the impression the noir was a numbered limited edition. Both are platinum plated silver. Do any experts here know what the number on the cap band references? Here's a bad pic of the band.

Interesting.... I do not even after spending some time Googling the hallmark.
565 generally pertains to 14K gold. I will continue to search a bit.

See I don't get it either. I'm fairly positive its platinum plated silver and the nib is 18kt gold platinum plated. The trim on both pens look identical. The nibs on both pens perform the same save for a fine point vs medium. These two nibs are much more springy than the 18kt paragon nib. They're also a hair smaller. It's one of those great Omas mysteries!

WII on European pens often stands for the color of the plating and in some countries is also shows as the word metal followed by a number. But this is too prominent to be that. Silver is also often proof marked BUT Italy has pretty strict requirements for such hallmarks and proof marks and what is shown does not meet Italian standards. Since it doesn't follow any of the Italian Hallmark or proof mark conventions I think we need to look beyond that. Omas has issued several numbered editions but in every example I know of they put the numbering on the body itself so edition number also seems unlikely. |

I didn't know Omas issued numbered editions of every example either. Your sir are a veritable encyclopedia of pen knowledge and it is a privilege to know you! Thanks again Jim! Hope you are well!!!

I did some more digging and found this! A different number on another rosewood milord. The website is in Japan. I think it's very well possible the noir rosewood is a limited edition while the straw colored pen is not. Now the question remains, how many did they make? Jim, is the WII ever used to reference platinum plating color? Update: I was wrong. It's rhodium plated.

It's too new to be in Letzia's two volume book of Italian Pens. |
