Does it bothers you as a buyer, and been asked for reference..
At times I still make my watch purchases overseas, unfortunately most beauties are not in my home country...
I have been trading for the past decade, dealt with many reputable dealers from the US. My most recent purchase from the states, no offence to seller. But I was just puzzled why I have been asked for reference when I m the buyer and me making the wire prior to shipping me my toys..? I see this appeared quite often on p.com, even a strap ppl are asking for reference...?

I don't get it either.
But a bad buyer can surely be a pain in the ass. Likely, the sellers simply prefer not to deal with a potential nightmare. So I suppose I do understand it to some degree.

I'm not sure I understand the sellers risk on a wire transfer. The seller has the cash and the watch, while the buyer has only a promise. Maybe a frequent seller can weigh in on the need for references for this type of sale.

they might be worried about shipping to China. but I agree with you -- if you're willing to wire funds up front, then the request for references seems pointless

Not at all. A buyer can scam a seller just as easily as a seller can scam a buyer.
If you don't like being asked for references, find another seller. |

Thanks. But anyway on a true fed wire? I didn't think so but others here have far more experience than I do. |

When selling, I only ask for references if the buyer wants to use paypal, never for bankwire. Difficult/problem buyers usually reveal themselves anyway during the dialogue leading up to the purchase.
Do the people who are paranoid about revealing their wire instructions not realize that the same information is printed on their bank checks? |

I've sold to people before that were huge pains.
After all pictures were vividly presented. All questions answered. But at the end of the day, the buyer decided he wasn't happy. Maybe he never tried it on before and he was hoping for the best. I don't know. But I do know that I then had to deal with it and keep him happy. Otherwise I might have gotten poor feedback. I'm not a professional seller of watches. It would not have meant all that much to me. But my reputation is very important to me. And I always try and "do the right thing" Truly, there have been times I wished I'd not made the sale to a pain in the ass buyer. As a professional watch seller, the stakes are much higher They can be 100% in the right, but bad feedback could still cause a loss of future sales. I don't blame a seller for trying to confirm a smooth transaction.

its amazing how many people think the deal is done just because it lands... a seller asking for a buyer reference is perfectly fine and i encourage it. frankly, a buyer should also ask for better terms if they're a more secure, experienced buyer; there's value in having good socialmedia commercial credit and if TS' work hard to build and then use theirs when they ask more than typically the sunday buyer/seller, or the 3 in 3 out a year WIS', why not good buyers? |

No, does not bother me. Lots of scams going on, including shipping scams.

I understand sellers that want references. Buyers can be a pain, just as much as sellers. Just because someone wires you the money doesn't mean that's the end of that. What if it's their first watch and make a big deal out of a hairline they didn't see in one of the pictures, for example? If someone has references it means they've done deals before, and probably more experienced on how the process works, ie: easier to deal with

Jason, seller was okay after I talked to him. I assured him, he can ship the watch after he sees the money in his bank I'm no hurry for the watch. I 'm thinking they must have gotton the impression they have to ship before payment show up in their bank acct...? Quote:

For a wire, I don't see the importance of getting references for a buyer. For PayPal, because of it's policy of siding with the buyer regardless of the circumstances, absoutely

I've only bought here from two different TS's and I've never been asked for a reference. I wired my funds, and when the funds were received, the watch was mailed. I would have been in trouble if the first time I bought, I would have needed a reference. Just didn't have one.

I've never been asked, but when contacting a seller I've never done business with I usually send over my feedback page and other recent transactions that may not show up. It doesn't hurt for both sides to have confidence in a strong deal. Probably helps with negotiation too, they know you mean business if you have the history.
