Having dinner with my grandmother tonight and she pulled out her college graduation present. Old Hamilton with "4 or 5 carats of diamonds...I don't really remember" according to her. Is there anything special here or just an old diamond watch?

Hard to get more than the value of the gold and diamonds for these watches. Not to many people seem to like these small faces anymore.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure if this was the special edition "Fat Lady Gilt Red Submariner Vintage Tiffany Edition Rolex Hamilton"

It is one of the most decked out ones I have ever seen. The most I have had is 1 carat.
But even Rolex and Omega of this style are very difficult to sell. I look at it as a bracelet and that you are not going to get a premium for the watch movement

Just keep it and enjoy it.

There are some formal occasions where something like that would look really nice.

I wore a vintage Illinois Rockcliffe white gold watch (it's about the size and shape of the original Reverso) to work one day just because I could...it was neat to have something that old on my wrist.

But based on ebay sales I'd say somewhere between 200 and 1k... Search for "Hamilton platinum Art Deco Diamond" and check the sold listings...

Thanks for the info everyone. Being the only watch collector in the family, it will probably be mine one day, but I would never sell it. She loves it too much and will be a family heirloom. I guess I will let me wife wear it as a bracelet if it were willed down to me. It won't fit my 7.25" wrist and I prefer my Sub and DJII. Plus, I think I would look funny wearing a little lady's watch! She just wanted me to ask some of you if it was special beyond the obvious sentimental value.

Keep it in the family, the small dials might come back around or they might not. Regardless if it's a family heirloom it should remain in the family. Just my opinion
