What kind of AD discount can I expect on a sub?

Hey guys, I'm in the market now for a steel sub date, ref 116610LN and have been to a few local ADs to try it on (but I obviously haven't negotiated or asked yet because I wasn't ready to buy then and there). What % off retail do you think would be possible? I will be paying cash to get the best possible discount.

Also I'm in Toronto, Canada and they retail for $9750 CAD before tax if that helps for those who may be familiar with a particular AD here. Thanks

I would totally recommend going with one of the trusted sellers here on the forums. You can check them out in the who's who section. They have done thousands of transactions over the years and the two that stick out in my mind (that I've done business with) are DavidSW and Takuya. I know there are also some trusted sellers that are in Canada as well I think one of them is HarrisonsBrilliance, he was a nice guy to deal with. I know the trusted sellers in the US usually offer around a 12% discount on brand new subs where your name comes on the card with a full 5 year warranty. You also save on sales tax shipping it out of state (not sure about VAT / Duties, but HarrisonsBrilliance said he would ship me a BLNR from Canada to the US and there would be no fees)

As far as the AD goes, it depends. If you have no relationship with them it can be a 0% discount, up to I guess 10-15% , 15% if you get really lucky / negotiate well. Good luck let us know how it goes.

I have to disagree with trusted US sellers if in Canada. US prices are still slightly above ours and import fees push prices into the range of what you would pay full pop from a Canadian AD. If your in Toronto I have to recommend Damiani as I have heard great things. Discounts are hard to come by on popular SS models but I would aim for 10% with a maximum of 15% if you get lucky. Make sure you are negotiating in person with cash ready. Over the phone will not work. Good luck.

Hey I have a question, I was looking to purchase a BLNR from a Canadian trusted seller. He said that I would pay no import fees and if I did get hit with any fees that he would take care of them. He said he had sent hundreds of watches into the US and never had a problem.

I told him that I didn't have any experience importing items of that value before so I wasn't sure how it all worked. I do import shoes sometimes and I know they just changed it so anything under $800 doesn't have any duties (I think so at least.) So was he telling me the truth or does it work one way (Canada to the US) and not the other way (US to Canada) ?

Thanks in advance.

As far as i know any expensive watch being shipped from Canada into the U.S will incur (ballpark) around a 5% import fee. If it is indeed a trusted seller and they say they will handle any potential import fees then it sounds like you are set either way so I wouldn't worry about it if they have a solid reputation. In Canada our taxes are significantly higher (as high as 15%) so we need to budget up to 15% import fee in addition to any duties. It can work out to be as high as 20%. It's disgusting.

If you are in the US why import and face problems. Many trusted resellers in the US.

He was one that had a BNIB in stock for a good price when I was looking. He said no fees and if there were any he would take care of them. I ended up going with the 116610 instead so it didn't matter anyway. Of course if I can I will always use someone in the US.

Thanks for the recommendation about Damiani...I will check them out. Yes I too agree that import fees make it hard to purchase a watch out of the country, especially on lower priced steel models, such as the sub I want. That's exactly the reason why I am seriously considering purchasing from and AD. That and the fact that they are real brick and mortar shops and you actually get to see in person what you are buying. And no, of course I would not negotiate over the phone. I will post about my experience

0.0% discount is the expectation on a new SS Sub

Expect to get what you are able to negotiate. If you don't ask, the answer will always be "no".

Most won't want to move much at all off of retail. Having an established relationship will help.

Expect 0%, but decide what you are comfortable paying ahead of time and settle for no less.

I just negotiated 15 percent on a new hulk at a local AD. I think if you're not afraid to ask, and also respect social graces, you may surprise yourself

Parts of the USA seem to give SS models away, its incredible

I completely agree, and it seems purely AD to AD. Some places are militant on pricing (and undoubtedly lose business because of it), whereas others have offered me upwards of 20% off on select models (not SS sports models) just during preliminary discussions. Interesting stuff.

Why would AD do that?

Mutual acquaintances, and complete transparency on what I wanted and was willing to spend. Works wonders.

With the way the US dollar is compared to our dollar I strongly recommend you buy in Canada for best value and avoid any import tax hassle. I bought a sub from a Canadian dealer 2 years ago and received a 15% discount.

I got 7% off mine in October from a family owned AD. The one at the mall wouldn't discount at all.

Discounts were pretty good in Canada a few years ago. I got 18% off my 114060 in Oct 2014 from my AD. Not sure where it is at now. As mentioned above I have heard good things about Daimanai. Canwatchco is someplace you should look as well. Bobby, the forum administrator routinely lists new subs and you can trust him implicitly. His prices are taxes in and below retail. Good luck

10% but that was 5 off of MSRP and the remaining was sales tax as they shipped it to me. This was back in 2012

Up to 10%. Here in my town one dealer will give 10% and the other 0. However, on the high demand models that are not easy to get in stock, the typical discount is 0.
