Why do some GMT enthusiasts prefer the 16710 over the new and improved 116710?
I'd really like to hear perspective please.

the polished mid-links is a turn-off for some. some people prefer the full brushed look over the polished

I totally prefer the classic 16710 to the new ceramic. I prefer the bracelet all brushed and I think the clasp and bracelet are super comfortable. I like having the option to change form the coke insert to the pepsi insert and I am not a huge fan of the ceramic bezel, I am also still trying to figure out if I prefer the maxi dial or the classic. I think some of us are old school and fight change, to me, the classic GMT II was perfect, the so called improvements are only improvements to some. I even prefer the red 24hr hand to the green, I could probably go on and on. The biggest factor for me is the polished center links, I seriously dislike them and I personally think that only dress watches should have them. Just my $0.02......

That about sums it up. I have the 116710, and it's great, but since owning my Sub, I've really come to appreciate the more "old-school" stylings of the watch, and that transfers to the GMT.

I love both versions of the GMT, but since I have the new, I'm definitely on the hunt for an older one. Right now, my Sub is getting almost all of my wrist time.

Out of all GMTs I actually prefer the older 1675 models with the plastic crystal and matte dials. These were my favorite GMTs ever made, with the 16710 in second place.

Out of the 116710 and 16710, I would easily say the 16710. As nice as the new movement, ceramic bezel and maxi dials are, its not enough to make me want to purchase it.

I just love the 16710 for its incredible versatility, you can swap out the bezel inserts. Also, I do like the non maxi dial on it and really miss the brushed finish on the center links. In the end, I love the 16710 because its truly a classic pilots watch and its too early to say that for the 116710.

Just the overall classic look. Bracelet is a nonissue for me. Also, not a real fan of the green on the IIC.

I like both versions but I think the numerals on the new ceramic bezel are a bit too large, a bit too "in-your-face''. Having said that, my GMT2 was bought in 1987 (when the bracelet didn't have the fliplock clasp) so I'm thinking it's time for an update!

because its a classic looking watch with a rich pedigree and history, you can change the inserts to get a different look and to my eyes has great proportions. It is comfortable to wear and I like the red hand

I prefer 16710 because of the classic look, honestly 1675 is my fav,
but really hard to find mint one and if there is one, will be really costly.
I actually like polished center link, but not the big font on the ceramic bezel
of 116710.

120 click bezel, optional bezel inserts, choice of 2 bracelets, brushed center links, and the red 24 hour hand. The GMT IIc has features many would call improvements and sales have confirmed it's popularity. However, like many have already said here, the 16710 is a classic that's stood the test of time.

I prefer the classic 16710. I don't like the supercase, maxi-dial and large numbers on the ceramic bezel of the 116710. I am sure I will fell the same way when the new SS Sub Date comes out.

In additional to the above reasons, if I want a 116710, I can get it BNIB anytime in future. Not quite for the 16710 unless you hunt around. In 3-5 years time, it would be very difficult to get a BNIB 16710 other than the time capsuled examples.

I prefer the 16710 for all the reasons that have been listed here. The C is pretty sharp in its own right but not for me.

Like others have said, I find the 16710 to be pure perfection, particularly in the all black version.

I love the red 24 hr. hand. I don't like the polished center links on the IIc and I especially don't like the green 24 hr. hand.

I vacillate between them, but definitely prefer the brushed bracelet over the polished. I also prefer the smaller dial markers/hands and classic look of the 16710. But I prefer the solid construction of the 116710's bracelet/clasp, the ceramic bezel and the green 24H hand.

Fortunately, I'm content with my Explorer II, so I don't have to make any decision about this regarding future GMT ownership at the moment.

I am honestly shocked to hear so many supporters of the old GMT.

Now let's reverse the question here:
How many members prefer the updated movement?
The improved clasp?
The brilliant ceramic bezel that I can't seem to take my eyes off of?
Not to mention the solid shiny polished center links?
