Help for a newbie - Rolex 1016

Hi everyone, I want to buy a Rolex 1016 for my fiance. I've been doing some research but I'm a total newbie to the watch world.

While I've found some great watches with papers for $13-15K, I was hoping to spend less than that.

I'm looking at this watch - http://www.watchvaultnyc.com/Rolex-E...016_p_649.html. It looks like the seller has good ratings across this forum and others, but outside of that and basics on what is posted, I'm not sure what to ask or what to look out for.

Do you all have any advice? Thank you for your help!!!

Watch looks nice but it has replaced parts. Dial, hands and insert have been changed.

Reach out to a few recommended sellers- HQ Milton or Sheartime and ask them... a lot of watches are sold without ever being listed publicly.

Thank you for the advice - will do. Have been talking to a few great sellers directly and it's been really helpful. I guess I was looking for that dream deal but it probably is worth paying a bit more for a fully original watch.

Buying a Rolex is like buying a car – when you find one that not only drives nicely, but makes you grin every time you see it - you’ll know you’ve got it right

But just like a car, it can be expensive if you change your mind later

Take your time, and get it right – when you’re absolutely sure that another one in that (insert parameters here) condition won’t come along for a few years – pull the trigger

As for “papers” – I bought my Rolex new (well, one of them anyway), only to have the box and papers stolen a year later. Fortunately, the watch was on my wrist at the time (and still is). It happens, and is probably more common than you’d think for these things to part company.

If you’re looking at an investment, it can count – if you’re looking at a gift, probably not.

Same thing goes for replacement parts – but bear in mind that they would only have been replaced if they no longer came up to Rolexes high standards

She’d better be worth it is all I can say ………
